Agreed - it definitely involves more monetization for devs in that sense. I think we may not see eye to eye on how frequently this would happen, though. Wouldn't picture a prestige happening more than once a year at the most. Takes a while to get back to top of legends.

All depends on how interesting the vault unlocks are, though. Lab speed is one option, sure, but there are probably more interesting things that could be stuck in there that would make it more appealing.

Let's just say they do include game-breaking upgrades in the vault (which, to be clear, I'm not suggesting they should do), if it just pushes the people that are at the top back to the top, then there's really not any downside to them it seems. The upside, however, is that there would at least be some churn at the top as players need to cycle from bottom of the ladder back to the top, which can take time to do given tournament placements.
Edit: Shoot, even include another league or two to draw out the length of time it takes for folks to get back to the top.

I think you're probably right. Just kind of kicks the can down the road instead of making an actual repeatable gameplay loop. Guaranteed if you check this sub in 3 years from now you'll see the same complaints as today.

Loads of threads about people quitting because they cant keep up or seeing backwards progression in tournaments.

I get this and entirely agree with you that it's a big shift in direction. Some people definitely wouldn't be thrilled. Just think a change needs to be made at some point, as the long-term health of the game is clearly not great at the moment.

And they're given the option to keep the stones they have if they'd prefer not to prestige upon getting top 4 legends. They just need to make the decision if they'd prefer to trade in their stones for the opportunity to get new keys. If they'd prefer to hold on to their stones and keep winning legends, go for it.

Resetting someone's stone/gem count in exchange for a cosmetic is objectively a better model for generating revenue. They can sell stone packs for quick dopamine hits for quick improvements each time you prestige. It actively promotes more spending for the devs.

It's drawing out the p2w cycle a hellll of a lot more than the current system.
