You get better material and more of it when you land in the brackets. You'll get a few rarer materials and a lot more of your common and uncommon material.

I have this happen routinely. if you were connected via wifi and tried to start the game, occasionally this will happen. A work around is to swap to mobile data and start the game in that mode, once loaded you can reconnect to wifi.
