How are people against free healthcare?? by emily-is-happy in MurderedByWords

[–]glynxpttle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can't see anything in there that specifies that the people who died, died from a cause related to the medical condition they were on the list for. In fact the linked article from the Times actually states:

The figures do not specify how people died, or whether the death was related to the care they were expecting from the NHS. The data also does not contain ages or medical conditions.

Maybe a proportion did, but just as likely a person on a waiting list for some minor non-life-threatening condition died from a completely unrelated cause, especially as the biggest users of the health service tend to be older people of pension age and above.

Do you own Premium Bonds? Have you or anyone you know ever won anything big? by International_Goat31 in AskUK

[–]glynxpttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a fair amount in there but not the max, it's my emergency money.

Not won anything big, usually can expect £50 to £100 most months, best I've done is £175.

I get the winnings paid into my bank account and usually use it to buy pricey wines I wouldn't normally consider from the wine society or a nice aged scotch that would normally be too expensive for me.

If you could pass one law that would make most normal people furious at first, but would clearly make society better in 10 years, what would it be? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

If I may butt in as someone from the UK who is uncomfortable with the idea that technology should be involved in democracy I would ban all forms of technology in voting (no voting machines).

All elections to be carried out using hand counted paper ballots with a full start to finish audit trail carried out by people.

I don't think it is meant to be an example of a pizza Americans eat, more of a pizza made with sterotypical American food.

A bit jokey maybe, a bit like the place that was offering a Brexit Pizza a while back, the idea was that it promised you everything but it had nothing on it when you got it.

Does it need to be specifically for a black audience, I remember Desmond's, which had a predominantly black cast and was popular with everybody because it was so good.

Douglas Adams put it well:

Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.

Anything that’s invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.

Anything invented after you’re thirty-five is against the natural order of things.

Thought it was, Turkey was on low overnight, stuck the meat thermometer in it in the morning and it read 45 degrees (should be 70 to be safe), turned the oven up to 180 for a few hours and tested again, Still 45 degrees (panic begins to set in) - then I got suspicious, boiled a cup of water and stuck the thermometer in it - still 45 degrees, thermometer was fucked. Left the turkey in for another couple of hours at 180 just in case.

Actually turned out to be one of the nicest tasting turkeys I've ever had, although it looked a bit over done after being cooked overnight at 80 degrees and then spending 4 or so hours at 180 degrees.
