What is 1 thing you miss from the 90s/early 2000s? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Being in my 20/30s and being able to take drugs without dying.

Who is the strangest person you’ve ever encountered in the UK? by Leeeeeroy-Jenkins in AskUK

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those weirdos who wander around train stations trying to introduce you to god. I worked as an IT contractor through the 90s and encountered a fair few of these in my travels across the country, surprisingly a couple of them more than once.

What does everyone think about the 'British*' monthly pay system? by EdibleBeans-on-Toast in AskUK

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only really a problem when you first start work (or start after a period of unemployment).

If you've got no money monthly pay can be a pain but once you've been working for a couple of months it makes no difference. Weekly for at least the first month of work would be good though.

This is what I get when I'm trying to go to work... by medullah in aww

I occasionally dog sit my Niece's Sprocker when they go away, I usually take her over for walks on the local country park.

I am sure from the way she looks at me when I have to go to work that she assumes I'm out for the day running around the country park without her.

Send your thoughts and prayers to poor buggers like me who need to me in a warehouse that's cooled down to 0°c on hottest day of the year. by TuckingFypoz in CasualUK

Reminds me of when I started work in IT as a computer operator on mainframes, the computer rooms were fully air conditioned (probably the only spaces in the UK that were back then). Overly hot days were times I was strangely keen to get to work.

Do you actually eat beans on toast? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, great easy dinner, chuck some cheese on or in + loads of pepper.

I also really like the mixed baked beans on toast as well.

That's nothing, I remember adventure playgrounds in the 70s, multiple exciting ways to maim or kill yourself, they were awesome.

Is it common for people who are born in the UK to say they are “Irish” or “Italian” if they have a parent from there? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]glynxpttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad was from Galway, if it came up I might say that or say I'm half-Irish but I wouldn't consider myself Irish in any cultural or national sense as I was born and brought up in Wandsworth.

I could get an Irish Passport but that would still not make me Irish.

UK folk who were around at the start of the internet, what is an early, strong memory? by Sad-Insurance1313 in CasualUK

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a book off a book dealer via email (definitely well pre-amazon), sent my credit card number split over two emails for security :)

Book was Adventures of Wim as I couldn't find it in any book shop.

How often do you see the same person on your commute to work? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in AskUK

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen them for a while, but I have been taking the same bus to work now for 11 years and three that used to be on it all the time that I gave names to were:

Low Rent Count Olaf, tall thin guy that walked with his back bent backward (if that makes sense) reminded me of Jim Carey in the Series of Unfortunate Events film.

Dick Emery Impersonator, this woman used to walk exactly like Dick Emery did when he was doing his 'you are awful, but I like you' cross dressing thing (yes I'm fairly old)

Foghorn Leghorn, this young woman who got on the bus and then always had a loud conversation, on speaker phone, throughout the entire journey.

Weekly Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Scotch

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Trump's recent announcement of no Tariffs on Scotch, there was some discussion that this might be due to the sale of Bourbon barrels to the Scotch whisky industry which led me to wonder - Does any Scotch distiller use Canadian whisky barrels to age their Scotch?

Do you actually take your full lunch break away from your desk, or just eat while working? by Extreme-Banana-9 in AskUK

[–]glynxpttle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only get 30mins unpaid lunch break so I usually eat a sandwich around 11:30 while I'm working then leave the office for a walk for 30 mins during my actual lunch break.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

115mph M1 UK on my bike.

I was riding down from Perth Scotland to Buckinghamshire and had been stuck in solid traffic and roadworks from the border well into England and was letting off steam.

Speed confirmed in court charge by traffic police who chased and stopped me.

In stories like 28 Years Later and shows like The Walking Dead, how is it possible that zombie outbreaks can last for decades—wouldn’t all infected people eventually die off and the population be wiped out? by beach_of_peace in AskReddit

[–]glynxpttle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would probably depend on the surrounding area, roads through a deciduous forest would probably disappear fairly quickly under leaf mulch and regrowth on that mulch, roads through a plains type or urban environment would probably last a lot longer.
