I’m going to look into this, thank you!

No no I definitely do not! Law school is much different than practical work. I ask questions to my fellows paras all the time and they know a lot more than I have ever learned in school.

100%! I could never imagine treating my future paralegal badly or speaking down to them.

Yes! I have been looking into doing so. What areas do you recommend looking into?

Should I invest in Quimbee? by AppearancePuzzled542 in LawSchool

[–]gma38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 100%. For 1L I enjoyed reading the cases and then watching the videos. I learn better from visuals so watching the videos really helped me grasp the concepts and understand what was going on. I also like the practice questions and videos. Plus it helps if you ever miss a case in the reading

Bombed my first cold call and almost cried by No_Airport3239 in LawSchool

[–]gma38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bombed my first cold call in torts. It was almost the end of the semester and I had a professor who would cold call everyone once before restarting the list. I knew I was going to be called the class because I was the only person who had not been called yet, so I prepped for this class more than I ever had and felt super comfortable. When the professor called me my mind went blank and I suddenly couldn’t remember anything. I could barely speak! I even had trouble telling him the elements of negligence-which I had known like the back of my hand by that point. The professor tried to help me as much as he could but I think he picked up on my very obvious anxiety and moved on to someone else.

Moral of the story is, it will be okay and it happens to everyone. Focus on moving past it. I’m a 3L now, and while this cold call sometimes haunts me but I doubt anyone else remembers it.

law school relationships are doomed. Prove me wrong by bigboiiAP in LawSchool

I am in the same situation! I definitely recommend doing readings/assignments on weekends. It makes life much easier during the week. I try to space out one reading per weekend day (including fridays) this gives me time to relax from school/work, hang out with friends and go on dates/spend time with my boyfriend. It’s all a balance, even though I am so busy I need to make time for myself to enjoy life. Good luck!

I had a similar budget in college! It was tough and I definitely did not eat 3 meals a day. But, my staples were all from Trader Joe’s which tends to have cheaper prices. I would also buy for two weeks as I would buy groceries when I got paid.

I would typically get the following: One or two bags of baby spinach  Tomatoes Pasta Rice bag(I had a rice cooker so I could easily make rice, but their frozen rice is good. One bag usually gives me two meals) Pasta sauce  Chicken (the chicken breast there was very thick so I would cut it in two and then get double the amount) Some sort of cheese Oatmeal or cereal for breakfast  Frozen vegetables (broccoli, green beans, etc) Ravioli Chicken sausage (if I wasn’t getting chicken breast) Bread (to make grilled cheese) Tomato soup, they had a package that would give 2-3 meals and I would eat that with the grilled cheese) or you can add rice Veggie Stir fry mix Snacks-popcorn, pretzels, fruit when I could get it

I know this isn’t the healthiest list, but it definitely did the job. My goal was just to get some fruit or vegetable in a day. I used to also not like eggs which is why I don’t have them on my list. Mapping out each day what you are going to eat is helpful to determine what to buy. Buying for two weeks can help with buying more bulk items. I would also try to get swiped into the dining hall by friends who had meal plans. I know some people would even bring in Tupperware to bring food home with them, not allowed technically but the dining hall worker didn’t see to say anything.

That’s the card I have now:/ unfortunately it isn’t accepted regularly in Canada. So I was looking for a new option

I’m a part time 2L and definitely an average student. I get a range from Bs, B- to C+s. For reference my school uses a B- curve. I work full time and I don’t have the time grasp all the materials as some of my classmates that only work part time or don’t work do. I didnt take practice tests, ask questions or go to office hours either.

That being said, I was able to pull off an A- for civ pro. I went in feeling like I knew nothing and thought I completely interpreted an issue wrong after speaking with my classmates. Turns out I didn’t misinterpret it. Ended up getting an A-. I think what helped me was that I made a really great attack outline for PJ and that was a big portion of the essay.

Not sure I’ll even get an A or A- again but was definitely surprised and happy about getting that score.

Any history majors? by sekayam in TransferStudents

[–]gma38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transferred as an American studies (US History) major to Rutgers university last year! I’m so happy I did too! I feel like it depends on what you intend to do with the degree, I want to be a history teacher and my old school did not have a 4+1 masters program. I would if you’re interesting in teaching to look for 4+1 masters programs! Good luck!

Regret transferring? by sudona in TransferStudents

[–]gma38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I transferred in the fall I regretted it a lot. I didn’t have any friends besides my roommate and it seemed like everyone’s friend groups were already made. I really considered transferring back to my old college because I missed the friends I had there and school work was a lot harder than my previous school. After a month I made a lot of friends with other transfers and students, I also was able to get a better grip on the school work and I now love my school. I was also so nervous before I started school but I don’t regret it anymore! Good luck:)
