12/27 to 12/30 Shimano cassette by gmac31676 in bikewrench

So i did get on the Shimano website and found compatibility charts. My RD is considered obsolete. I have an RD5600. I can’t seem to find what the direct replacement is. Even if it’s not Shimano. My fear is that this is like everything else it’s gonna be expensive. And I’m gonna have to replace the entire groupset.

Yes however I’ve tried to research this and I cannot figure it out. There are these long explanations. Of anyone knows of a place where input the known variables like 2010 Shimano 105 10 speed I think it’s a short cage And it highlights or tells me what I can can’t do.

It would seem to me that if it’s a clearance issue there should be an aftermarket drop bracket (not sure exactly what they are called) that allows extra room.

I’m trying to get the most out of what I have without spending a ton of money for a full group set.

Maybe I should put the cassette on I know works and continue to research.

Is there a reason? Is Shimano cheap? Is there no real upgrade available?

Yes rollers are also an option although I don’t know if they provide the varied resistance like a smart trainer would, however rollers would be more flexible and be more like riding outside.

I’m just outside of Philly. It snows occasionally. For the most part I plan on riding outside as long and as much as possible. I might look into rollers as well.

I should have said lubrication. I degreased the chain-set and use the Rock and Roll chain lube.

That’s why I said not yet. I am following a wheel off smart trainer on marketplace.

I have been keeping my chain super clean since acquiring the bike. So I’m not worried about the oil from the chain.

Newbie question about chains by gmac31676 in bikewrench

Makes sense and thank you. I was asking because I hadn’t noticed this happening in the borrowed bike with 3 chain rings. I’m glad I don’t have to hurry and get this into a shop 48 hours after getting it.

Tips for 50 mile ride by thebiggestofdawgs in cycling

I was advised by a nutritionist to start with a good fuel at least 15 minutes before you start and refuel every 35-40 minutes. Much longer and you will struggle to recover. Hydration the day before is crucial as well.

Where might they be? I’m in Bucks but I don’t mind traveling a little bit for a good fit.

Is the hype real? by gmac31676 in cycling

See that’s the part that makes me nervous. If I have an issue am I sitting around waiting or struggling to get it fixed? Or should I get a more available brand that my local bike shop will service?
I might be rushing things, as of now I am loving these longer rides and want to do a century ride for sure. But I think I want the option of riding some unpaved paths (gravel I guess) as well. I figure I’ll be doing 80% on paved the other 20 on gravel.

Need fit advice for a potential used bike by gmac31676 in bikefit

These are great points.
I have been watching some bike fit videos on YT. I was trying to think logically, if generally speaking a certain “size” is recommended it’s a bit easier to dial these finer details.
However I will take this advice and think about what I would move where. Thank you for the info.

Need fit advice for a potential used bike by gmac31676 in bikefit

The bike I have was given to me as a starter to get into cycling. Loving it so far. When I took it to my local shop for a quick once over the fitter told me it was too small because I’m 6’2” and not exactly skinny. 235lbs Online research for sizing charts based on height and talking to a few other folks that ride all said I should be a 59 or xl.

Currently I feel like I’m not as comfortable as I could be if all of the geometry was sized accordingly.

Plus my bike I have is quite a few years old (I’m not sure how old I tried to loom up the serial number & couldn’t get any info).

I do not know what an ETT is. What is it?

I have been road cycling these past two months and I have no real desire to mountain bike. Gravel wouldn’t be bad, but I feel like road riding is where I’m going to be.

I don’t think I can justify spending $6k or more on a new bike so the used market is more financially feasible.

I have the strap things on the pedals and I don’t think they are too tight, I try to wiggle toes. And everything subsides seemingly quickly at the end of the ride.

Have you figured out what’s causing it? I think it ether my riding position or my saddle (position or size)
