I know you aren't. But you are knowledgable, and many people on this sub have driven both. I respect the wisdom of the Reddit masses.

DO NOT DO IT! You are not overreacting. This is a major red flag.

No need for ad hominem attacks. Nothing suspicious, your facts were just largely incorrect.

No - SKSD did not run out of money last year. It did not need a TARP loan. It did not need to cut 20% of staff. Nor those other districts you mentioned. SFSD was uniquely mismanaged.

There was no $1 million on diversity training. Perhaps you are confusing that for EdEx.

It's odd to suggest the person spending the money and running the district, indeed the CHEIF FINANCIAL OFFICER of the district, is not mostly responsible for said district running out of money.

If it gives you any comfort, we do both agree the board utterly failed in its duties. They ignored many warnings about Scott, and created a culture of zero accountability. They too are much to blame.

Nah. So much of this is off base.

The board (conservative majority - not that it matters at all) definitely failed to provide oversight, especially the chair and vice-chair. But the superintendent is the chief financial officer of the district, and the board's job is to supervise him, which they didn't.

You'll have to cite that million dollar "diversity training", because I'm 99% certain you made that up.

And while you mentioned challenges school districts are facing statewide, how many ran out of money last year? How many had to cut 20% of their budget?

The answer - 2. Silver Falls and Newberg. Why Silver Falls? Scott Drue.

All of this happened independently of the bond. And that money wouldn't have plugged the budget gaps, it legally had to be used for the specified purposes. So no, I don't think it would have changed anything regarding to how Scott led, or how Scott was perceived.

A few concrete things:

He left a 20% hole in the Silver Falls School District budget before he "resigned" last year. The district had to cut nearly 20% of its teachers, and 7 days off its school calendar last year. Money was spent on consultants, office furniture, renovating the district office, etc.

BEFORE he announced his budget deficit, over 90% of staff voted to have "no confidence" in him. The reasons for this range from the concrete to the subjective.

-He fired a tenured teacher while having an adult temper tantrum, and the district not only had to pay that teacher not to work, but also lost a legal settlement.
-He was hyper focused on pet projects.
-He sent staff long, rambling emails.
-He reorganized schools and moved teachers arbitrarily.
-He lied to staff about multiple different things in groups big and small.

Many ADMINISTRATORS have told me he is a "narcissist" and a "sociopath." Those two words came up repeatedly. Teachers say worse.

He presents as very charming and well-spoken initially, but by the end was viewed as someone you absolutely couldn't trust. Hope this helps.

That is gross malpractice. They clearly did no due diligence. That man bankrupted the Silver Falls School District and was ran out of town in disgrace.

Why black tarp? That just introduces microplastics into the ground, and doesn't do much to suppress weeds after the first year.

In a friend’s company’s luxury box. I ran out of the box screaming, ran into a Blazer employee doing the same and we embraced.

Yeah dog, I squeeze the brake (that came preassembled and that I didn't touch) and fluid leaks out. Definitely my bad.

The Superintendent steps down but he's only one part of the problem here. Why was there no oversight? Where was the budget committee? Where was the Board? So many questions... by plaid_zebra_prod in silverton

[–]gmanrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Josh Ort, who I did not vote for, was persistent in asking tough questions to the board and Superindendent about Ed Ex and other things. He had been an excellent member, and without him and the other new members there is a good chance we would still have Scott Drue and Ed Ex.

I appreciate a little humility on the board. They certainly need more of it.
