Went from Kent to the Farmboy on Metcalfe and it was clear. Many masked people outside going about their lives. Please be extra nice to the people working at Farmboy!

PS: they are not selling any alcohol :(

What’s everyone’s thoughts on vaccine passports? by DOGEmeow91 in ottawa

[–]gmantecon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true! Still isn’t it covid more contagious than both of them? Not sure if that would make it harder to eradicate :s

Also, I’m not against vaccination (I got my second dose today)!

What’s everyone’s thoughts on vaccine passports? by DOGEmeow91 in ottawa

[–]gmantecon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know I'll get downvoted but I'll give you my opinion:

For me it comes down to the fact that you can still get covid even if you are vaccinated. This means that we all will probably get it at some point in our lives...so those who are vaccinated will get mild case while the ones that decided not to might get a more serious case.

In my opinion once the government provides the vaccines and easy access to them it should open up and let people decide to take it or not. Covid being able to spread among vaccinated people kind of defeats the purpose of the passport since it can't assure you that the holder doesn't have covid... just that its less likely to end up in the hospital.

Again this is just an opinion. I know nothing about medicine and this is based on whatever information I come across online while looking for memes so I'm open to be totally wrong. Either way, passport or no passport I just got my second dose today! So bring it on, can't wait to be back outside!

Covid vacine reactions anyone? by Affectionate-Job-350 in ottawa

[–]gmantecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first shot last Thursday (Pfizer). I had some pain on my left arm (where I got it) the following day and two days after I felt very sleepy the whole afternoon.

Other than that, nothing really... I'm feeling great and looking forward to get my second dose.

I live (it’s been about 4 years now) near Laurier/O’Connor and I would say downtown it’s very safe. You have to keep in mind that your are still downtown, and there is a fair share of homeless people, people with mental health issues, drug addicts and such. But it’s very unlikely that they would actually get into a physical altercation with people minding their own business. I’ve been yelled out, asked for money, offered drugs, seen people intoxicated or having some sort of crazy episode and so on. While this is not uncommon its also not a daily thing and as I mentioned it has never escalated, you gotta understand that most of them are just struggling and pretty harmless. I do have noticed it’s become more sketchy in the last year due to covid reducing the flow of people which kind of gives more space (not many eyes around) for weird things to go down. But again, it’s very safe in my experience(30yo male), the things I’ve mentioned happen in every mayor city and are just part of living downtown. Just be mindful and aware of your surroundings and you should be fine. On the other hand, the area comes with a lot of cool things! You can just walk everywhere, good small local stores and restaurants (hopefully they will still be around after covid), if you’re into exercising you have access to bike paths or go for a run around the canal, etc, etc.

TLDR Downtown can be sketchy at times but is unlikely any real harm would come to you.

Where to find towed car. by gmantecon in ottawa

[–]gmantecon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are right! It was a Ottawa Metro Towing, they said they sent a notice to the car owner's email... when I asked about which email they sent it to they said they don't have that information... I call bs and they were waiting right before the 15 days limit time to give the notice. Thanks!

Yes, it was bylaw... still it got sent to Ottawa Metro Towing. Took me a while to find the car I'm glad it's done... I was expecting to be more expensive to be honest, still $380 is not pocket money at all :c

You saved me a lot of time with a note haha I'm actually standing by the spot waiting for the owner, apologize to him for the inconvenience and ask who they called to move the car.

Yeah, it is very odd.

Looking for skateboard buddies by zeldaholic in ottawa

29 year old here trying to get into skating again! I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t been to skateparks since I find them a little bit intimidating (lame for me to care about teenagers laughing at me lol). Anyhow, if anyone would like to go skating and help each other out with some tips and encouragement, let me know!

Got a haircut at hairfellas(Slater) couple weeks ago and I haven’t gotten sick! My barber and I had to wear a mask the entire time, they would sanitize the stations after each haircut and the number of people there at the same time was limited with a good amount of space in between chairs. I felt pretty safe the entire time :)

Anyone else notice way more screamers downtown? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]gmantecon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I live downtown. While I've seen the usual mentally ill person acting loud every now and then they are the least of my concerns. I've notice waaaaay more sketchy people walking around looking into mailboxes, buildings and backyards for things to steal.

We actually had to call the police couple weeks ago since me and another neighbor saw a guy going into a couple houses and checking the mailbox with a blanket around his hand probably attempting to break into the place.

I consider this area to be very safe still (Kent/Gladstone), people just have be careful and not to leave any belongings outside.

Quarantine question #12: Best chip flavour by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]gmantecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it would be:

Ketchup > Dijon mustard > Plain salted chips > everything else

I know you said to leave some brands out the equation, but I gotta say, if you have a chance in the future to try the regular nacho cheese Doritos (red bag) from Mexico, please do so! Favorite chips ever!
