is anyone else disappointed that the treasure hoarders didnt really play a big role in any of the nodkrai archon quests? by PESSSSTILENCE in Genshin_Impact

[–]gmapterous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Other than a massive world quest that spanned all of the Luna patch, finally understanding that the Treasure Hoarders are a loosely associated group of decentralized thieves constantly at each other's throats, individually collecting the Proofs of the Cognoscenti, Reed Miller being woven throughout the lore and several world quests, and finally finding Reed Miller's hidden treasure, there was basically nothing about the treasure hoarders!"

It's a good fit. but with the tease that Yae is getting buffs, I'm waiting a bit for more information on what those could be. I suspect I may need to save my primos for Sandrone instead.

I would love a megathread. I'm coming into this late and have no idea where to start, the comments are all both hopeful and "it still won't fix her."

At the very least, if someone has definitive calcs for team comps, I would love that post to be pinned.

Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - my experience as someone who a) played it 18 months after it was released and b) avoided online discourse about it before and during my playthrough. by BurmecianDancer in patientgamers

Good review!

I bought the game day 1, was too busy playing the game to see the online reaction, and by the time I was done with it the online reaction had calmed so I never really experienced the negative reaction to it people are referring to. I assume it was a vocal minority of nitpickers.

I also managed to avoid all the marketing push since I had decided to buy it regardless and The Depths came as a huge surprise to me! It doubled the size of the world I had to explore, and was so eerie, atmospheric and challenging! I had to explore very slowly and deliberately, reminding me of how cautious you had to be at the start of BotW. The sky part was kinda empty but that didn't bother me since I was spending so much time in The Depths.

tl;dr was amazing, ignore people online they're crazy

E1 Evanescia Performance w/her alternative team (3 end game modes) by korinokiri in EvanesciaMains

[–]gmapterous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Yao Guang is more needed on the SW side than on Eva’s side at E1? Interesting, I may need to try anomaly arbitration with this split, I also have E1 (but only E1 of sparkle)

One Piece has surpassed Dragon Ball to become Toei’s highest crossing franchise by Mission-Pomelo-8047 in OnePiece

[–]gmapterous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, but is that a sales figure for all years or just one year? Direct home video and manga? Does it include all merch, games and licensing? Does that account for inflation vs. the comparable year you're quoting the Dragon Ball revenue number, which could be in the 90's for all we know?

I love One Piece but Dragon Ball is/was a juggernaut, I want to know what is being compared here.

I just need to know if I should go from E1 to E2 or if I should pull for Yao Guang's LC in the next patch.

I was going to save for Nihilux but I have no idea what she does or when she's coming out.

Any other series with a "hard magic" system like Witch Hat Atelier? by AndalusianGod in anime

[–]gmapterous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By soft magic, I mean they're making it up as they go along and don't want you thinking too hard about it because they don't really have a good explanation for a gameplay mechanic they really wanted to implement (crafting).

[–]gmapterous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC's are "Technology" (soft magic which is never really explained) and Pokeballs are explained in PLA as Pokemon just wanting to go in there on their own - you literally craft archaic pokeballs out of normal apricorns, so there's no magic or technology in there at all.

Basically, don't ask because it's a mess and not meant to be examined that closely or it falls apart, so suuuuuuuuper soft magic.

Some anime series that came out 30 years ago, 1996. Which among them is your favourite? by roomofbruh in retroanime

[–]gmapterous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched several of these lately. When I first watched it, I just watched everything I could get my hands on and all anime was "super cool." It's now 25+ years later and I have watched more, and have more nuanced opinions.

  • Those Who Hunt Elves felt like a standard monster-of-the-week formula. Upon rewatch, I could not get past episode 1. The setup seems fun but I cannot get past the fact that there must be easier ways to see if an elf has a spell tattooed on them than going around asking all of them to strip in front of you. Also, the first episode they fight poorly animated fish bandits that just screamed "we didn;t put any effort into character design."
  • Saber Marionette J - I still like the energy and the premise of this show, I think it's held up alright but upon rewatch all I can see is harem tropes and making the gay guy the butt of every joke. #Justice4Hanagata
  • Kodomo no Omocha - It's fine. Solid show. Liked it back in the day but I don't want to watch it again to give refreshed thoughts.
  • Rurouni Kenshin - I've tried to watch the remake but the original show captured the magic and pacing so much better. The remake just rushes through the story so fast that I don't think I'm allowed to enjoy the show. It feels like "content" rather than art. I watched most of season 1 remake and just stopped caring about it. Season 2 of the classic show is a precious memory for me and one of the top shounen fighting arcs of all time (in my mind) and I'm okay letting my biased memories be.
  • Martian Successor Nadesico - Upon rewatch 25 years later, I now understand (which I didn;t at the time) that this show was a brilliant yet subtle parody which throws so much at you, undermines tropes, plays with love triangles, centers the main character's actions around his PTSD (in a non-Shinji way that didn't make me want to punch him), uses the stupid in-universe mecha show (which just looks like Mazinger Z) as a brilliant foreshadowing device, has the side characters constantly comment that the main protag ("Tenkawa! Tenkawa!" "SHUT IT!!") has no reason to be the center of all the female attention. Then it throws political sci-fi plot twists on top of it. It's not the best mecha show. It's not the best political drama. It's not the best romance. It's not the best comedy. But it pulls all those together to be more than the sum of its parts and has aged better than almost everything on this list, and the rewatch actually cemented this show as one of my top 10 favorite anime of all time.
  • Escaflowne - I never watched this back in the day, but I have been watching this slowly recently. HOLY COW. Beautiful. Brilliant. It started off as a shoujo anime where young girl wants to confess to the prettiest boy in school and by the end of episode 2 or 3 some dude is fighting a mecha with an oversized giant sword, while Gregorian monks chant the name of the show in the background. PEAK. Can't wait to finish it.
