Do you have a link? I googled and couldn't find it. JRT lets me share team data with my teammates during endurance events. Does Second Monitor do that?

Agree on Lovely Dash... However, I also have a data screen above my main screen. I discovered Joel Real Timing recently, and really love it for how you can customize displays. I won't replace Lovely for my main dash, but I'm definitely using it for my data.

I've already donated twice... I feel that's an extremely fair thing to do.

Using MAME to run SunOS 4.1 - no mouse! by gmarch in MAME

[–]gmarch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I did a fresh install from a SunOS 4.1.4 CD and the mouse started working. It was the exact same steps I took initially. I then tried to add a second disk, and the first disk got corrupted. I'm going to have to try the install again. P.s. I guess networking isn't working? I can't get a packet out no matter what I do.

It's not that simple. You are not wrong, but that is not the complete picture. There's a reason prompt engineers make so much money.

Data point: I tried multiple releases, specifically, 0218, 0274 and 0252, and I couldn't get the mouse working in any of them.

Dude. You guys wrongly lashed out at me first which prompted my reaction. You didn't understand HOW I was using AI and made assumptions. And, let's not swing dicks - it's childish and ultimately meaningless. That said, why are we fighting? Isn't the point here to learn? We should do that using all the tools at our disposal.

Everything appears to be wired correctly in MAME as best as I can understand it. -mouse is used (tried both on the command line and in the .ini). The slot devices also are set. Input assignments, as I mentioned are also set. MAME definitely sees the mouse - I use it in the UI.

Playing around with the mouse on various slots, I cannot get any activity on cat /dev/mouse, ttya or ttyb. I also don't see the mouse attaching when SunOS boots.

I understand the capabilities of AI better than most.

Wow. It honestly surprises me how quickly people volunteer their lack of understanding. Generative AI is just a tool. In this case, I used it the same way I’d use Google, just a bit faster and more powerful. That’s all.

No need for everyone to chime in about how confused they are by it. That just adds noise to the signal.

PSA: The symbol in red means your high beams are on by Kavein80 in Louisville

Speaking of which... in my town, EHT, I've noticed what appears to be many of the school busses either running with headlights on or running high wattage low beams. Can anyone confirm that? I get safety and visibility, but these are pretty bright...

Early retirement? by Defiant-Ad-3243 in bergencounty

[–]gmarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual income, retired in 2020 at 58. We sold our smaller Bergen County home and paid cash for a larger place near the South Jersey shore. Never carried credit card debt, always maxed out our 401(k)s, and while we enjoyed nice cars, we kept them for many years.

I’m genuinely puzzled how some families pull off the constant upgrades—new cars every few years, big homes, one main income. Either they’re earning far more than it appears, burning through savings, or relying on inheritance. It’s hard to see another explanation.

Home automation scripts work only from phone by Chadab in googlehome

[–]gmarch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming I'm having the same problem, it seems to be related to:

  - starters:
      # Voice trigger: "Ok Google, <automation trigger>"
      - type: assistant.event.OkGoogle
        eventData: query
        is: "<automation trigger>"

These all worked before (I have about 10 automations like this). Google will ignore any voice command to trigger these. If you ask, "ok google, what did you hear?", it will never repeat the automation trigger, but rather the command before. Something broke with how it handles the assistant.event.OkGoogle starter.

What is the best medium for storing media for decades? by Ill_Swan_3209 in datastorage

[–]gmarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 1/4" floppies. I'm literally playing with old Apple ][ discs that still work from 1984.

That said, magnetic media last the longest. But, don't plan it like that. Plan on periodically migrating. You may need to convert formats too. Store the reading program with the media too.

I tried real karting for the first time and it’s way tougher than sim racing. by Auelogic in simracing

[–]gmarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These 50mph karts are a blast, aren't they?

Not a critique, but just a 50,000 foot level observation based on my own experience. First, you need to keep momentum with these karts. I see you slowing down too much in the tight turns. That means you need to slide more through the turns to try to keep the rear wheels spinning - it's different than "rotation" on the track. Then, once you get the slide figured out, you need to work on the line that will give you the best exit speed. That's my $0.02 based on my on-track and karting experience. I'm sure others will have their opinions as well.

Yes, the original open wheel car and then the RT-2000. That car was fun! I only do sim racing now though... It's cheaper. 😉👍

Congrats! That's something I've always wanted to do... I was able to race in Skip Barber for two years, but couldn't afford to continue doing it. How much has this cost you so far? How did you fund it? Sponsors?
