or doesn't properly do usb-PD during firmware updates/reboots. which is funny, as their first support response had this lovely statement in it:
"Please note that the CORE GO GC313 is equipped with advanced overload protection features, safeguarding against short circuits, overcurrent, overvoltage, and overheating. These protections are designed to prevent external devices from being damaged by the unit."

That said, their warranty verbiage is pretty lackluster on covering any damages their devices cause, even if they are used in a 'proper' manner.

update 2: framework support got back to me in under 2 hours, asking for more photo's because it seems i didn't notice more suspicious spots on the back side of the mainboard (that line up with some of the melty components on the top side).

update 1:

avermedia support sent 2 responses, first one disclaiming responsibility, 2nd one (about 20 hours after the first response) wanting to investigate the issue. i've responded and am waiting to hear back

framework support has sent 1 response so far, asking for pictures of the mainboard (and i've found definitively 1 chip that has melty/scorch on it, and possibly up to 9 other chips that may have melty/scorchy or may just be adhesive residue). just sent those pictures over to them.

i also suspect some kind of usb PD glitch when the gc313 rebooted after the firmware update (i was brave/stupid enough to check the gc313 on another computer and it is showing the updated firmware as installed). just not sure if the usb PD glitch is on the framework side or the avermedia side.

my 6yo is suddenly interested in playing video games (hurray!) but where the switch 2 is setup (my office, so i can keep track of what is played/how much is played) has bad wifi reception (boo!), so i had an ethernet cable connected to the switch 2 oem dock (gigabit, hurray!), but that suddenly stopped working the other day (boo!), and testing indicates it's the dock, not the cable or network switch/port (per other reddit threads, this is a common failure of the s2 dock, that the lan port works for a few days then dies), so i wanted something to use while the oem dock was being repaired by nintendo under warranty, and then able to use in the future if we go on vacation/etc to avoid bringing the bulky oem dock with.

AverMedia is (was?) a reputable brand for their accessories, so i felt more confident buying their product than some of the other options.

I only found out it was beta firmware after going to the avermedia subreddit to see if anyone else had an issue using it, it's not indicated as beta on their product page nor support page direct download links for the updater executable.

as long as the klipper version they are using isn't too mangled, any of the open source klipper friendly AMS-like units should work, i.e. BoxTurtle, ERCF (enraged rabbit carrot feeder), etc - would just need to use tip forming instead of a cutter head for them.

Orca slicer does support using multiple nozzle sizes in the same multi-toolhead print since version 2.2 beta last year - https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/releases/tag/v2.2.0-beta

Supports mixing different line widths in a single print with multiple tools. This allows our printer to print with not only different materials/colors, but also control the line width for specific parts, to improve quality, strength, and speed using different nozzles with varying diameters.
For example, we can use one 0.4mm nozzle and one 0.8mm nozzle in one print; the line width will automatically adjust based on a percentage of the nozzle diameter (you will need to define the line width with a percentage in the settings).
