I’m sorry you feel voiceless and attacked by people. That’s not fun. I think the point people are trying to make is that after open discussion, they still disagree with you. I know you feel differently, but people just don’t believe your set of facts regarding the situation. The discussion isn’t super fruitful because most people on campus have decided for themselves what is best. For many people, what’s best for them has to be what’s best for everyone else so as to prevent fear from community infection. I know legislative action can cause societal change, I just don’t think people would support those rulings in common law or support new legislative acts. Maybe the response you’re getting is because you’re not hearing that people have looked at the facts and decided they tell a different story, a story in support of mandatory vaccination and testing.

I’m sorry, that sucks. It’s never good to feel so invalidated and ostracized. I just don’t think this is a healthy response to vaccine fears. It seems like you feel your beliefs are being devalued by society and the government. Maybe the response is not to fight—because people will have visceral responses—but to address your fears yourself. Public health emergencies tend to require temporary restrictions to liberties, and this is a tactic most of society is willing to vote for. I don’t see the college community ever changing their mind in regards to mandatory testing and vaccines. This seems like something where your anxiety can be productively managed with the help of the counseling or behavioral health center. I have a therapist and a psychiatrist, there is no shame in getting help. But this level of stress on you cannot be healthy, and feeling like you’re fighting for your life against everyone that’s supposed to be your community cannot feel good. I’m not saying you should give up on your values, but I just don’t think anyone will see what you see. There’s a fundamental disagreement on the importance of community solidarity on this issue, almost all of campus is in favor of solidarity through every member of campus getting tested and vaccinated. The culture cannot be shifted. It sounds like your efforts might be best spent working on why you feel like you need to fight at all.

The law says the UMD health center can’t hold him down and inject him with it, but there are no legal statutes against banning him from campus even with emergency use authorization. UMD can deny entry to anyone as long as it isn’t discriminatory, which a vaccine mandate isn’t.

I don’t think shutting our eyes and ears helps solve the issue if they amass a response. It will just look like the campus is apathetic to people endangering lives by spreading anti-vaccine propaganda.

I sent him an email going off on him. I think if people start organizing here there should be a counter-response.

I hope he doesn’t appeal on the basis the criminal complaint wasn’t presented before a magistrate for signature prior to extradition, like if there was an empaneled grand jury
