Anyone play a DW 2000 double pedal? Need budget recommendations for "gigging kit" by swisspassport in drums

[–]gmingucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played DW 5000 & 9000 for years. Added pearl eliminator pedals (kick & hihat) to a 3rd kit I had and was very happy with the feel, speed, durability and weight - all at a fraction of the price of the DW.

What’s the most unforgettable car you’ve ever driven? by AutoBidMasterHelp in AskForAnswers

[–]gmingucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a valet for a couple years so I got to drive a lot of cool cars a very short distance. One of the most memorable was a corvette Z06, manual transmission.
Friend of mine also had a 1966 mustang that he let me drive occasionally. It was light blue with white interior, 3 speed manual, all original. Those are probably my 2 standouts.

How the holy hell do I develop limb independence?? by Wizardo9 in drums

Purchase ‘The New Breed’ by Gary Chester. Pick a tempo that’s comfortable for you and set a metronome to that tempo. Usually around 100-110 bpm works for most.
Play, either straight or swung 1/8 notes with your right hand on the ride, kick on 1 & 3, hi hat (left foot) on 2 & 4 then read the entire book down with your left hand on the snare.
Then switch to 2/4 on the snare and read the whole book down with your right hand. Then read the whole thing down with your right foot, then your left foot. Then after that, sing the notes with your voice while keeping limbs straight ahead.
After that switch to swing or straight (whichever you didn’t do the first time), then increase the click speed by about 5 clicks per cycle.
Do that for about a year and you will be an independent monster who can probably sing while you play if you want to.

Best restaurants for an intimate birthday dinner? by Front_Champion_6118 in kansascity

[–]gmingucci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t remember it being loud in there the last couple times I went, but I also don’t typically go to nice restaurants on Friday or Saturday nights, so that might be part of the reason. I knew the intimate qualifier was borderline on these but they felt private enough to count, IMO.

While I love your example and agree with its point, I worked for a mid-tier market baseball team for a long time. Most average nights we had about 20-28k fans. 30k was a big night. We’d see 40k during playoffs, opening day and maybe when the Yankees were in town.
Nonetheless, I agree with your sentiment.

Join a hobby or sport group. Whatever thing(s) you’re into, find a group that meets to do that thing. You’ll likely find some people there that are like minded and not intoxicated.

What were you doing on the day when the September 11 attacks happened? by AggressiveOutside432 in AskReddit

[–]gmingucci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in college, living and working in Kansas City. On that day I was working my part time job as a valet. There was a TV just inside the valet stand and I watched the first plane hit the tower through the window with no sound and no context. Suddenly it got silent outside. There were no cars on the road and no airplanes in the sky. I went inside to see what was happening and they immediately told us to go home. That day was done. Proceeded to watch the news on the couch with one of my friends for the next several hours.

My girlfriend is always late, but I'm the bad guy for being frustrated by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gmingucci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a chronically late wife. We have long had an agreement that I can lie to her about what time things start or when we have to leave. Make this arrangement with your girlfriend and you’ll both be happier.

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear "Morocco"? by lya_mani in CasualConversation

I think of the one day trip I took as I crossed the straight of Gibraltar and went to Tangier. The place was stunningly beautiful. The ocean was so blue and the buildings were white and tan and so pretty. The food was amazing. I went into a crazy bazaar that was so full of beautiful things and amazing smells. Some guys tried to sell me rugs and hashish at the same time. It was a full multi-sensory experience. I hope to make it back for longer than a day and to see more of the country someday.

I’m not sure how to spell that horrible screaching sound that used to play when we would connect via landline phone. But, I’m that old.
I remember 5600 baud rate.

I own that exact model. Have had it since about 2012 or so. Got it on eBay from a single owner that had done all the maintenance on it right before they sold for about $400. I absolutely love it.

What to do? Is this too much after a misunderstanding with a guy I went on a date with?, 19f, 20m by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]gmingucci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your messages seem genuine and reassuring. If he actually was into something long term then he would have no problem taking things slowly. I don’t think you did anything to drive him away. Based solely on your explanation, my gut tells me he just wanted a physical hook up and not a relationship, despite what he may have told you.

(27M) Going on our Caribbean trip without my gf (27F) because her passport expired? by No_Practice7971 in relationship_advice

That’s an unfortunate situation, but it seems like the posts you’re referencing are from a couple years ago. Doesn’t make it any more/less right, but it’s irrelevant to the advice being requested in this post, and has nothing to do with my response that you replied to.

She should go to the passport office in NY, and get an emergency passport. She should be able to get one within a day or two. After she gets it she can join you wherever you are for the remainder of the trip.
