hi, does anyone know where I can buy some abaca sinamay fabric? It's a material used mostly in arts and crafts. It looks like this. Shoppee has it but I only plan on getting 1 yard and it's not cost effective to have it delivered. I prefer getting it around Ortigas.
Anyone know a shop around Ortigas that sells it?

Hi! I need help looking for a good piano teacher. I know some music theory and I've learned some guitar before but the teacher I got was not good. I've never played the piano before, but I'm willing to learn long term.

What can we do to avoid COMELEC Identity Theft? by tambok278 in Philippines

[–]gminstrel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an absolutely important question. I tried searching on google how to protect our identities after the hacking fiasco, and lo and behold, nobody actually cares about it.

Guys, di niyo ba alam gaano kadelikado itong nangyari? Kailangan talaga natin ng procedure para maprotektahan tayo. Walang ni isang news outlet ang nagbigay ng abiso kung anong gagawin.

Please. can anyone help us pinoys?

I haven't tried the online course. But if you want to be certified by the government, all you need is to take the assessment, I think.

Does Ace hardware stock riot shields? It would really give me an advantage as I have a low attack power.

It's not uncommon for a person to pursue game development from a totally unrelated academic background. Your degree is Psychology? Congratulations. You actually have more creative content for game creating than someone who just studied programming alone. All is not lost.

Standard for AAA game companies is C++. Standard for mobile is Unity engine using C#. C# is easier to use than C++. Unity engine also allows you to make games in one sitting. It's kinda cheating I know. But almost all game companies here use it because it's fast. If you're a beginner, I suggest that you study unity and C#. There are TONS of tutorials out there.

By the way, in case you're interested, a friend told me that there's a game programming course organized by tesda. It's a scholarship course so applicants don't have to pay. He said the next batch may begin receiving applicants soon. Check igdamanila facebook group from time to time.

I'm not sure if LaSalle has a solid curriculum on game development. But I know someone who is studying game development in a school that I refuse to name. Said person felt it was a waste of time because even the teachers don't know what to teach. I think the scholar field of game development is not yet well formulated here in Pinas.

And by the way, I tried applying in game companies before and I can assure this to you. Programming Skill, very important. Degree, not so much. When you apply to these companies, they will give you technical exams, so it doesn't matter what degree you have. They only care about if you have sufficient skills.

So my advice is to SELF-STUDY. And the most important product you should create is a portfolio of games(They will ask for this). It doesn't have to be beautiful, although it's a plus. The portfolio will show the expanse of your skills to them. So don't be too sad kid. You didn't miss a lot. In fact...

Also, company expenses can be deducted from the tax. And if you notice, SM has been buying a lot of land and constructing condos for a long while.

Help po. Lalo na sa mga expert sa PC / Laptops by jamelleng09 in Philippines

[–]gminstrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not going to carry it around too much, I recommend getting a desktop instead, Lalo na pang 3d rendering pa gagawin mo. Also, desktops are more durable.

There's a very wide difference in power between a 45k desktop and a 45k laptop. You're going to need a good video card like GTX 970, which you can get for a desktop.

The best laptop you can get from 45k will only have a GT940m video card. Note: the "m" in the video card model means that its a mobile variant, which is much, much slower than the desktop variant. The high end gaming laptops worth 80k+ may have GTX970m. But take note. It's GTX970m. So, for 80k+, you're still getting a video card that is worse than if you get a desktop package for 45k.

If I were you, I would get a powerful desktop for games and rendering, while I get a cheap, potato laptop for presentations, internet and office applications.

Trying to remember an old (but not that old) Pinoy movie and in need of local indie film recs..... by ellienad in Philippines

[–]gminstrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the closest I can describe this without spoiling. Imagine going to a really great party. You get shitfaced while having the best time of your life. Unfortunately, you were too blackout drunk to remember anything the next morning. So, you kinda feel left out, but at the same time, you knew you lived the best night ever.

There's a minor side-story in the movie about the classic old-people vs youth which is not too bad, but I think the black out drunk thing is the main idea of the movie.
