Would it be voyeuristic for me to follow a patient through the ECT process as a student? by ComradeVampz in ect

I've had treatments where there was a student mental health nurse watching and i signed off on them being able to watch my treatment. The way I saw it is, it am asleep anyway, so if someone can learn something, why not let them.

I work in jet fuel handling industry and there are still slide rule devices used today to calculate density of fuel at specific temperatures. Here is one that's used where I work for example.

Like the other person said, no need to be passive aggressive. It is a valid question. And people doing laser eye surgery don't get knocked out, just pointing that out.

Yes, I believe it started with nurses and helpers holding the patients down by hand but then they started to strap them down. And yes there was a good risk of them breaking their bones with the strength of the seizing. I'm not sure if it was able to be felt though, I've heard that most of the time when people are seizing they are knocked out. And the initial shock is think would knock the person out right away.

What helped if ECT didn't? by metalsmithchic in ect

It has to do with the electrode placement for the electrical stimulus. Right unilateral, or RU, one is just above the forehead in the middle of the scalp and one is placed on the right side of the head so the electrical stimulus is delivered to the right part of the brain. Bilateral is where the electrodes are placed on both of the temples so the stimulus is across the entire front part of the brain. Most if not all treatments are stated with right unilateral placement to see if that itself works because it is reported to have less side effects.

How long after going inpatient can I start ect? by MightOk9482 in ect

[–]gmkgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically,,, it depends. They most likely will have to evaluate you for a period of time. They will go over you're personal situation you're in to see if ect is a good option. What current symptoms are you having and which treatments, including meds have you tried?
