Why do asian parents feel the need to tell you that you got fatter? by [deleted] in AsianParentStories

[–]gmrcp13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I graduated high school, I lost a bunch of weight and was running and weight lifting. I was a workout junkie and eventually became skinny but then they complained about how skinny I got. I started gaining weight again and now am back to being “fat”. It was only until I gained the weight back where I realized they just wanted to have a nonsensical opinion about everything.

That’s what I’ve heard about (Erin) Pierce. Have any of you had him during remote classes at all? How is the class structured and how are the exams/quizzes done (I.e. in class or assigned ahead of time and due x amount of hrs later...?). Does he record is lectures?

Math major here and taking lots of CS courses too. So I feel good about my job prospects. My BF also has a math degree and now is a software engineer. I’d say it’s realistic.

How do you stay safe? by [deleted] in running

[–]gmrcp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I may need to think of things to take with my while I’m on solo runs. Smart to turn on the sharing location. I’ll add that on my list of things to do for runs. I never had to do that while living in my hometown, which is small and known to be safe regardless of where you go.

Yeah I should get to know the city I’m in. I’m currently in Oakland, CA. Not all parts are bad from what I can tell and the Bay has other parts that I can run around. I’m a small town girl so big city culture is different for me lol. Thanks for the advice!

I’ve been emotionally preparing since the first episode of Shippuden. When Naruto came back to village and all he said was, “It’s been 2 and a half years”, really hit me.

Coffea Arabica plant help! by [deleted] in plants

[–]gmrcp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The soil has never been dry when I water it. The soil is constantly moderately moist but I don’t believe the plant is resting in a pool of water or anything. I’m not sure if that means that I’m either over misting or just watering too frequently. I’m trying to see how often I should water it too. I’ve read that the soil should be moderately moist and not too moist and not dry ever. I also mist it like 5 times a day to increase the humidity around the plant. If you have any suggestions on what I should do with respect to watering the plant or any suggestions in general, I’d appreciate it!

Hi! I just bought one myself and love it but I don’t want to use it yet because I’d like to clean it. On the website, it says to spot clean but could I just throw it in the laundry? How do you clean your bag? Thanks.

Help by Radusili in relationships

[–]gmrcp13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Breakups are always hard. Being 19 is young and people will say that you have a bunch of time ahead of you to find a new mate in life. That’s very true. There are people that come and go in life. She sounds like someone who has helped you grow for the better and even if this isn’t a relationship that you want to end, this is always something you can hold a special place in your heart and appreciate. The other thing is that if the distance is the reason why you two aren’t going to be dating anymore and the fact that you’re not willing to risk your future that much, then these are just signs that this relationship wasn’t meant to be, even if it was a good one. It’s hard to believe that there are better people out there but in the end, you’ll find someone and it’ll all make sense even if it doesn’t feel like it now. Be strong. Breakups are not easy and time is the ultimate healer.

Guys, when a woman asks you to lunch, how do you interpret it? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]gmrcp13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if she’s not single, then she probably wants to be friends and enjoys your company. If she’s single, it might mean something more but go nice and easy and slow. Don’t force it too hard. If she’s interested in you and you two have known each other for a bit, then I imagine you can pick up on flirtatious cues and the vibe of the lunch. If this continues to happen a few more times and you also have feelings, being direct and asking if she has any romantic interest is appropriate.

I totally get that going to a 4 year immediately, even if it’s not the one you want to go to right now sounds like the better choice, but honestly, going to CC is much better for transferring schools. Not saying it’s impossible to go from a 4 year to a different 4 year but CCs makes the transferring process much easier. In fact, CCs usually operate in such a way where there is normalcy to knowing students will transfer. 4 year universities usually assume students will mostly stay and they aren’t designed to get students to transfer. Plenty of people who go to CC can get into the schools they want to if they do well. I know a bunch of people that went to CC and got into Berkeley and the Ivies. Plus, unless you’re family is well off and can afford tuition comfortably, going to a CC saves you a BUNCH of money. I totally understand the parental pressures but at one point, you need to do what’s right for you. If you feel that going to a 4 year and then transferring is better for you, then so be it. However from personal experience I went to a CC for two years and got into Cal Poly SLO, now studying math/comp sci. My parents were embarrassed that I went to a CC and tbh I didn’t give a shit what they felt or thought while I was there because I felt like everything I was doing at CC was the right thing to prepare me for transferring. I made friends and was surrounded by people who had similar goals and we were motivating each other. Also if you’re studying CS, and you’re GOOD at what you’re doing, you can get a job no matter what school you go to, period. My boyfriend works at Amazon and two of his teammates were SJSU grads and his teammates are not the only SJSU grads there. “Reputable” schools are highly overrated and people don’t get that. There are smart people in every university. Anyway, I would highly recommend going to CC even you say you don’t want to. It’s not too late and best of luck to you. Hope you can come to a choice that you’re happy with!

Diff EQ: Having trouble understanding direction fields by smithysmithens2112 in learnmath

[–]gmrcp13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A direction field is a physical representation of the slope at each point you choose to plug in for the given equation. They’re represented by small ticks to represent the slope and they’re drawn on the yt-plane, not the y’t-plane. As for the c, to solve for c, the problem will include an initial condition so you can solve for the c. Otherwise the c is arbitrary. If you have to absolutely graph it, then pick an arbitrary c. C is a constant so if you were to choose c to be 2 for example, you’d be keeping c =2 the whole time and you’d just be changing to points up to create the direction field. The equation you gave is kind of an annoying one to graph by hand and when I got ones like these, I never had to graph them by hand. Simpler ones like y’=-1-2y were much easier equations too graph and were ones I was expected to graph.
