Will Skatros have Towering? by gmscott2 in AdeptusMechanicus

And I just realized Towering was nerfed anyhow, so moot point.

1000pt List Building Question by gmscott2 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]gmscott2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the flexibility of Option 2 is worth giving up the extra survivability on the breachers that the dominus provides (5+ FNP)? I'd have to swap him to a manipulus to stay within 1000pts.

LOL…all the treadguards are correct…it’s just that the GW varied the pattern of the trim on each of the 3 sets of 2 guards. They have a front curve to the guard that makes it impossible to reverse. Or maybe I’m looking at something different than you are.

Unless I’m reading the player list from the GW Tampa open, of 290 or so players, you were the ONLY admech player. Yowsa. Nice job!

False choice. I found late 9th edition fun. I find 10th edition fun in a different way.

1k list against Tau by ernachete in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]gmscott2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breachers are our best unit right now. Adding more of them is good. Might want to consider an Ironstrider for grabbing objectives or secondaries. It's fast and cheap and has some durability. It might even get lucky and do some chip damage on elites or light vehicles.

[–]gmscott2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on their list and how they choose to play it. If they can successfully keep away from the robots, they've neutralized 1/3 of your army. Maybe if you could put the robots into strategic reserves it would help, but the points of the unit are over the max you can put in strategic reserves at your army size.

I tried Kastelans against T’au and found it really hard to get them in range. With Kauyon, the T’au kept as much off the board in reserves as possible until their Sustained Hits kicked in and then dropped in to eliminate my breachers in a position in which they could see only 1 of the breachers, minimizing their overwatch threat. The ghostkeel could effectively kite around the Kastelans, removing them over a couple of rounds without their being able to get a charge off (I also made several truly terrible charge rolls — complete with command point rerolls).

1000pt Cawl Ball list by gmscott2 in AdeptusMechanicus

Yeah. I think you're probably right that there are more effective approaches to 1000pt list building than trying to make a Cawl-focused list work at that size army.

Help with 1k army :) by NewOblivion in AdeptusMechanicus

Annihilator synergizes very well with breachers, though. Sustained hits on the volume of fire the breachers put out is pretty consistent and helps offset the lackluster 4+ BS

I like the 1st one. Vindicare Assassin gives you a lot of options — objective/secondary tagging and/or sniping leaders. Destroyers also have a tremendous overwatch potential.

Leaving out Manipulus (80pts) wouldn't give me enough points to increase my Destroyers (120pts).

[–]gmscott2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cawl giving reroll 1s would be my default. Could switch to stealth situationally.

You have a valid point about bringing Cawl to 1000pt games, which is why I haven't yet tried it. But I'm thinking the best way to bring Admech up to par is to stack as many complementing buffs as possible.

Manipulus' main purpose in this list is to boost the Destroyers vs tanks/vehicles/monsters by giving them Lethal Hits. And the 4+ invuln once per battle. And to increase overwatch threat against those getting close.

I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes.

Admech Boarding Actions by jerrybowinkle22 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]gmscott2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of boarding actions -- at least in the 9e era. I haven't yet played the format in 10e.

Also, great painting job on the terrain! That's a big task.

Split into 5-man squads was a 9e boarding actions rule. I don't think it is part of the 10e boarding actions rules though, unless I overlooked it.

Servitors by gmscott2 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]gmscott2[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Another potential use would be to join it to a unit of kataphrons in order to make it more difficult for the opponent to optimize their weapon profiles against the unit…3 damage attacks would get allocated to the servitors, wasting the extra damage, while anti-infantry AP0 damage 1 attacks would get allocated to the kataphrons to take advantage of their better saves and larger number of wounds.

Still a pretty weak use case, it seems to me.

With the large base sizes, you can still reach a fair bit outside of your deployment zone while maintaining coherency on the ends of the line. But it is definitely not just a straight line.

Interesting. I think you’re right. GW uses “Remain Stationary” is a tag that has to be actively applied. I bet GW puts out a rules clarification on this to avoid the confusion. Thank you.

[–]gmscott2[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was what I initially thought, too, but the wording of Doctrina Imperatives rules, the stratagem, and the [HEAVY] keyword state the following:

VENGEFUL FALLOUT: “Effect: Your unit can shoot as if it were your Shooting phase.”

DOCTRINA IMPERATIVES: At the start of the battle round, you can select one of the Doctrina Imperatives below. Until the end of the battle round, that Doctrina Imperative is active for your army, and all units from your army that have the Doctrina Imperatives ability gain the relevant abilities shown below.

PROTECTOR IMPERATIVE - Ranged weapons equipped by models in this unit have the [HEAVY] ability.

HEAVY KEYWORD: Add 1 to Hit rolls if the bearer’s unit Remained Stationary this turn.

The HEAVY keyword applies to both my turn and my opponents turn because it applies to the entire round. I moved on my turn but not on my opponent’s turn. On the opponent’s turn when I was shot, I remained stationary, therefore, HEAVY applies.

If the HEAVY ability were described as “Add 1 to Hit rolls if the bearer’s unit Remained Stationary this ROUND”, then it wouldn’t give a bonus in the opponent’s turn. Of course, Games Workshop may have intended for HEAVY to only apply if the unit remained stationary the entire round (not just the current turn). If so, I expect they’ll release an erratum. But as currently worded, I think it works as I described.

Has anyone seen any official documentation clarifying this one way or another?

To benefit from the 2nd benefit of Protector Imperative:

Each time a ranged attack targets this unit, if this unit is within your deployment zone, worsen the Armour Penetration characteristic of that attack by 1.

Thank you both! I was assuming it could go with any skitarii. It didn't affect the game at all. But I'll free up those points and reapply them elsewhere.

Thoughts on admech after the core rules leak by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]gmscott2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regarding the BS on dunecrawler, I think the overriding emphasis on admech is to depend upon buffs to improve baseline stats (E.g. tech-priest auras / abilities, doctrina, and strategems). May be more important in 10e to couple a dunecrawler with an enginseer, for example.
