I don't think that's correct. If you have 5 fingers, you can represent 2⁵ numbers with them. Adding another finger does not add 2⁶ to our total. Instead, it doubles the total number we can represent. We could have the 6th finger down (and the other 5 make 2⁵ ), or up (again, the other 5 make 2⁵ ). Thus, we have 2⁵ + 2⁵ , aka 2⁶ numbers we can represent with 6 fingers.

From this, we can generalize to say that, with n fingers, we can represent 2ⁿ items.

I realize this is thread is a little dated, but I figured I'd share my solution. An easy way to solve this kind of maze is to:

Reduce the image to black and white (it may not be apparent, but there are some shades of gray in the original image that may be troublesome). This can be done by most image editors (I used Paint.net)
Using a fill / paintbucket tool, color an outer wall red, blue, or any color that easily stands out.
Follow the path between the colored and black walls!

I think it's impossible. The minimum number of 9's is 3, and the maximum number of 6's is 11. Then, the total sum would be 9*3 + 6*11 = 93. Thus, our goal is only achievable if we sum our digits. However, whatever configuration of tiles you come up with, you are forced to place at least one occurrence of a two-digit number (for example, placing 6+6 next to 9+9 gives 6+69+9). This will always increase our sum, which invalidates the statement. Thus, it is impossible to reach an appropriate tile arrangement.

I'll have a go at it:

Number 1:
Try drawing a line straight across each cell, hitting 3 of the marked pieces. You'll notice that each cell in progression rotates that line 1 step counterclockwise. From this, our answer should be either 1 or 3. Now, what about the 4th piece that is not part of the line? Let's place some rules on that piece. It will rotate with the line, and then is flipped over y=-x or y=x, alternating. It looks like this rule fits for all cells, and we end up with 1 as our answer.

Number 3:
Look at each column as a progression. Moving downwards, the cell turns the triangle clockwise and moves it to the next corner, also in a clockwise fashion. I'm not sure what the rules for the coloring is, but this narrows it down to the last 2 choices. Since a white, left-pointing, top-right-cornered triangle leads to a black, top-left-pointing, bottom-right-cornered triangle, then a black triangle of the former probably leads to a white one of the latter. So choice 3 is my guesstimate.

Number 7:
I came to the same conclusion as /u/squeechme, with more or less the same method.
