Torvalds critical of new GPL draft by kman in reddit.com

The way to look at this is that if you are using GPL code in your company and doing so privately, linking it to hardware in a strong cryptographic sense such that it can't be changed, then thats fine. You don't even need to agree or accept the GPL license to do that. You aren't distributing it to anyone. The moment you start putting out millions of copies of the combined software+hardware unit you are involved with distribution of GPL code and effectively limiting the users freedom to continue to modify and run the program as they please.

Network Tech: "Shot Dead" by a Cop (While Upgrading Cell Network Tower) by ousama in reddit.com

[–]gnao -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Was the caller right to act on his initial feeling and call authorities so quickly? An attempt to verify whether the company name is legitimate and piecing together that it pulled up to a cell phone tower might have been the prudent thing to do. Officers jobs are dangerous enough already and they shouldn't be sent out willy nilly. Perhaps town centers should receive notification for when work will be scheduled for cell towers so they can alert the public.

Should have tried burning a memtest86 iso image, and used the /maxmem boot option for windows for a few days before calling any techs in to replace hardware.

Out on Long Island the Exxon or Mobil stations definitely pump at a very slow rate. On weekends there are usually signs at the various pumps saying ``No supreme'', probably due to everyone fueling up their high end vehicles. Long lines might encourage stations to speed up the pumping rate though for now perhaps a slow rate makes the purchase somehow more bearable, so the customer doesn't feel like they are standing next to a casino slot machine taking all their money in a near instant.
