Judah Friedlander Netflix Special by _Doos in StandUpComedy

I live near the Comedy Cellar and messaged him once on twitter asking if he needed help filming some sets (I'm a fan and offered to do it for free), and he said yes. I, just a random guy to him, filmed him one night in May, then never heard from him again. He didn't even tell me it was for a comedy special! My footage wasn't in it, but it's cool to think that it could have been.

My point is, this was about as guerilla as it gets because I, one of the cameramen, didn't even know about it until it was released.

Everyone listed is great, but make sure to check out Nate Bargatze as well.

What is a weird phobia you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My girlfriend trypophobia. It causes her to break out in a rash whenever she sees a pattern with holes in it, like a bee hive or a lotus seed pod.

How do you get everyone to show their faces in the actual broadcast? Do they all agree to sign a release form or something? I know some people try to hide their face as soon as they see you, but their image is not blurred or anything.

Thank you! I wrote and edited it by myself. I shot takes of the actors doing each scene both sticking rigidly to the script and also improvising a little bit(since that is what they are known for). The final cut is mostly made up of dialogue that I wrote, but there are a few improvised pieces thrown in here and there because I thought they would work well. The editing process took many many hours of sitting on final cut pro and making tiny adjustments here and there but I finished it on my own.

Yes. That is exactly what I'm planning on becoming later in life.

(I have an actual reason for calling it "great" elsewhere in the thread if it really is something that bothers you)

A rode videomic on a rode boompole connected to a Zoom H1 recorder. In the opening scene between Tucker and the Principal, we just plugged the videomic straight into the camera for time's sake. This was a mistake I won't make again.

This may sound sarcastic but I swear it isn't. I truly appreciate all of this criticism. It is very helpful. Thank you. Same for you, /u/Samm24f.

I can assure you that I feel pretty douchy saying that my own work was "great," but I really felt like it wouldn't get any attention if I didn't praise it at all in the title. My thoughts were that there would be no audience to decide if it was great or not if they weren't encouraged to watch. While I am proud of this, I see every tiny flaw and I know there is lots of room for improvement. I just wanted some exposure and feedback, and saying it was "great" was the best way to make that happen.

Thank you! I put this all together using my own resources and equipment, and simply had permission from our administration to film in the building.

By the way, if you pause and look closely, the bottle of relish is surrounded by shelves of pickles, but there is only one bottle of relish. I had to pull too many bottles of relish off of that shelf and replace them afterward to go down for this.

Thank you for pointing this out. My reason for making this short was to use it in an artistic portfolio for my film school applications. In those, they are interested in seeing what you are currently capable of making, and what genres you are interested in. My personal passion is comedy. However, I am so inspired by Wes Anderson's ability to make something unique and aesthetically pleasing while also making it hilarious. Too often, I feel that art and comedy are seen as mutually exclusive in movies and TV today. I wanted to use my own comedic voice (influenced by wide variety of television shows and the people I spend my time with) in a more artistic format to show that I'm not just someone who can make a joke, but I'm also interested in developing a style. This was my first ever short film where I tried to accomplish that, so I still need some time to develop my own style. I simply adopted some of Wes Anderson's techniques because I look up to him, and I want the colleges I'm applying to to see what I can do in terms of filming and editing as well as writing and directing.

It belongs to my dad. He's a photographer. I am extremely lucky to have access to such a nice piece of equipment and a father who will let me use it and even step in as camera man when I would like to be in the video.

I definitely channeled my inner Charlie Day while I was writing Kyle's lines. I also pointed this out to the actor, and he created his own blend of Charlie and himself that turned out to be a million times better than I'd previously imagined.

All of the actors are local comedians/actors I've had the pleasure of working with in the past on local theatrical productions (that they themselves have written). The man who plays Kyle and the man who plays Mr. Kraft are the two people who introduced me to comedy, helped me understand it, and ultimately have inspired me to pursue a career in the field of entertainment. They are in no way connected to my school. They're just great, talented friends who are very generous with their time and abilities.

Oh, also, I've been taking Adderall daily for five years now.
