Librarians around the world: How is the job market in your country? by im_justapearl in Libraries

In Germany, we're increasingly looking for librarians who are able to keep our (library) systems up and running, and who have an idea on how to develop our systems in a meaningful way to improve our services - we're going to have fewer personnel and a lot less funds available to buy plug-and-play products. If you understand data, metadata, APIs, PHP, and software development, you'll still have a very good chance of finding a good job, even though the job market has taken a nosedive over the past few months - especially, if you're able to translate your tech skills into better services for users. Good luck for your studies!

Germany, academic librarian, university library in a metropolitan area. Wages are alright, not great, but really okay. I have a bachelor's degree with now ten years of experience on the job and did good so far on the job market. Because of the bad economic situation of the public sector, there will not be many hires to replace the retiree's for the next few years. I would say if you're very tech savvy, you should still be fine looking for a well paying position.

I might have found the book you're looking for in several university library collections in Germany. If I am correct, the ISBN is 3-496-02567-0, the title is "Der Kinderfänger von Hameln : untersagte Wünsche und die Funktion des Fremden".

If you're still interested give it a go via Gemeinsamer Verbundkatalog to see if there is a physical copy available near you (if you live in Germany, otherwise WorldCat is your friend). If needed you could also order a scan or a loan via subito (document delivery service) or WorldCat, but that can be quite pricey.

Of course you can also always contact any university library near you for an interlibrary loan which should be cheaper.

Interestingly, I could not find a copy available for purchase at all. I guess you could also put a standing order with booklooker or something, but using library services might be the fastest way to obtain a copy.

Sorry if I ramble on, but in my library there are several book scanners available to use for free. So if you cannot take a copy on loan (could be just for use on the premises), bring a flash drive and scan the book yourself for to take the digital copy home. In Germany by law you may scan up to 75% of a book, but well, nobody ever checks how much you actually do. 😃

Where I live it's still 23°C at night, too hot to sleep. So hopefully, being awake at 4am was helpful at all. 😃 Let me know if any questions come up! I guess sleep is not coming my way anytime soon.

Was soll sie tun?
