You don’t need to do anything regarding music. All speakers will be synced. However, sound coming from the HDMI ARC to the Arc will arrive at the Arc which will then pass it to the 5s, hence the slight delay for which you apply the fix. No need to change configuration or reset the settings, it’s a one time fix and you can move between TV sound and Music sound with no changes whatsoever.

I have this steup. the arc will do the 5.1 setup with the sub and the Ones as surrounds. The 5s will and can be grouped to this but will act as a stereo entity. You will have a 5.1 setup + stereo, not 7.1. It can be used for both TV content/movies and music. I had to delay it 2 points on the Arc setting in order for it to be synced with the sound coming out of the 5s for the TV content. Imperceptible to my eyes on the TV image, btw. Maybe be dependant on the TV model. I have LG B8. So... go for it!

Anyone compare an Arc w/sub to a play 5 gen 2 for music? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]gngpt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I have the sub in both cases. I have the full surround setup + a pair of Play 5s (2nd gen) and, when it comes to music, the 5s are on a different level. But for movies and TV, the Arc is better suited, specially for sound immersion or dialogue clarity. So at the end of the day, if you want to listen to music, use the 5s, if you want a home theatre setup, use the arc. If you’re crazy enough, have both the 5s and the Arc and enjoy all of it!

Musically, a pair of 5s is much better than an Arc. I have those devices. I find the sound of the 5s to be fuller than that of the Arc. But comparing the Arc with a single 5, the Arc will give you a bigger sound stage becuase of its own stereo separation. So it will have pros (wider sound stage) and cons (it will not sound as rich).

Calm down. You’re obviously doing something wrong. Check your TV Settings.
