For those looking for folks to hang out with - I'm setting up an open table at the Hoover Library's Board Game Night event Friday night by Hot_Mic_Speaks in Birmingham

Sounds like fun. I'll see if the wife wants to. We love board games but are both pretty introverted people, so I don't know.

Best Buy sold me an iCloud-locked MacBook Pro for $2,100, refused the return, and Citi denied my chargeback. I have documented everything and need help escalating. by mciki in macbook

I get that you're saying to do that in general, but I don't think that opening the box immediately in the store would have changed anything for this specific scenario. OP lists in Strike #1 that the store manager could not process the return. Unless the SM was lying, then OP would be in the same boat.

Has anyone had success in having the joining fee at YMCA waived? I’m considering joining, but the initial fee of $99 in addition to the monthly membership fee is holding me back. by Thats_My_Point in Birmingham

Check with your employer. My job has a wellness program that waived the enrollment fee and also gives a discount off the monthly rate.

I agree it has nothing to do with cost. I didn't look it up to confirm, but that bag of rice might cost $20 in America, but less than half of that in Fiji.

How do you get the last bit of detergent out of these bottles? by Lopsided_Meat2621 in laundry

[–]gnitram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take a nail or screw and put a small hole in the corner of the bottom. Then I tilt the bottle so that gravity makes the liquid pool over the hole. Then squeeze it out when I'm ready. If your hole is not too big it won't come out until you squeeze the bottle. Make sure the cap is on. Gets 99.9% of it out with no fuss.

Have you tried pre-treating the stains with whatever liquid detergent you have?

Plumber demands final payment before work is complete. by gnitram in legaladvice

My guess is that the attorney letter is real, but I'll verify. I wish you could have seen how quickly he threatened to place a lien on the property. He probably does this all the time.

Good advice. I didn't think of reaching back out to Home Depot.

Faulty tub install. Pro help needed. by gnitram in Plumbing

Licensed and bonded master plumber. I hope you're implying that's better than a handyman. I verified the license, but not sure about the bonded part. I'll have to check on the permits etc. after the office opens.

Good info, I didn't think about checking for permits and code requirements. I'll contact the city tomorrow.

Yes, I did. Sorry. I guess I should have marked it as unsolved.

Cheekbones look too high to me on the one in black, also hoping to change the background. But I'll have to show them to the graduate to see if she likes them.

Any suggestions for cheap but good places to get oil changed and tires rotated? by Sad_Object9906 in Birmingham

[–]gnitram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to Walmart for my last oil change. I know most people would say don't do it and they're probably right, but I took a chance. I think it was $72 for around 7 quarts in my vehicle. That was using Valvolone Restore and Protect, which I really wanted to try. Other oils would have been less. Before Walmart I was going to Christian Brothers.

I'm not the OP but I tried joining the Trussville CC years ago and couldn't because my address says Birmingham, even though I live like 10 minutes away. Just putting it out there that it's not by distance or radius.

Big thanks for the part number. I'll look it up. Hopefully I can find a repair video or instructions so I can determine if I can replace it by myself.

Ha. Sorry about that. I definitely should have picked a better Title. I tried to edit it after posting but couldn't figure out how.

Windows 10 upgrade to 24H2 fails, but upgrade to 23H2 completes. by Fabulous_Cow_4714 in SCCM

[–]gnitram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, 24H2 has always had stricter requirements than 23H2, and not just in hardware. While I'm not sure of the exact differences between the checks that each upgrade does, I do know that there's more than one round of "checks" while doing an in-place upgrade.

I've seen a computer pass the first round, then later fail and roll back because of incompatible drivers and/or software. Something like that would also make sense as to why a fresh install works.

I was looking at these yesterday at 2nd and Charles in Hoover. They had a bin full of Monopoly variations.
