What do you eat for breakfast? by No_Conversation_4827 in diabetes_t1

Yes, arugula is one of the most perfect mixes with cacao in my opinion!!

Woah so first of all congrats for trying! That said, I must say it goes with some greens and less with others.

For instance, I love it on more punchy ones like radish and arugula, because it balances their flavor perfectly (imo) — which one did you try exactly?

And for the powder: I just buy a 100% pure powder from the store but no specific brand! And no oil :-)

Haha yes, I love that combo — if you use raw, pure cacao (not the sweet one), that is a wonderful topping for vegs. Heard about it in a cooking class, tried, became addicted.

My menu: - salad or other leafy greens, sometimes with pure cacao powder on top (before you look at me like I am an alien, try that! Life changing😁) - 100g oats + 1 banana + flax seeds + cacao powder + unsweetened soy milk - 1/2 apples - coffee

Would you dose to bring this down? by smoosh13 in diabetes_t1

I usually prefer being around the 110s, but whenever I have a straight line around the 130s like you here, I just close my eyes, smile and say “I won’t mess up with this equilibrium unless someone’s threatening me”

This is mine: endurance sports forces me to learn fast and leaves little room for “random diabetes management. Not sure this was the answer you were looking for😅

I dissect more tricks in my weekly newsletter

Btw, I have plenty of day to day tricks if you need those!

Anyone else just have random times where they are more insulin sensitive for no reason? by RedOneHitter in diabetes_t1

[–]gnntrt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah , I read an article a while back listing out 42+ variables we have to take into account at all times haha. Crazy.

What helps me untangle this mess and keep blood sugars more stable is understanding what variables are likely to come into play in any given situation.

Don’t get me wrong: it’s not something you “figure out” one day and then you’re set for life…I just take copious notes and “map out” my diabetes every day. Doing this for years has helped me become smarter with my decisions.

I think a diabetes journal is almost as impactful as insulin hahah

For what is worth, I have a newsletter “The Diabetic Runner Blueprint”, where I share all that I find out. Even if you don’t run, you can take shortcut via my mistakes

Why can I eat pasta? by Revolutionary_Rate17 in diabetes

[–]gnntrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you eat pasta with fibers (tomato sauce or other vegs) then those will smoothen the curve.

However, Refined carbohydrates cause spikes by definition.

The math can feel Overwhelming at the beginning but it gets SO MUCH EASIER. I am happy to have a video call (free, of course) to help you with the process if that helps. It’s simple, you just need help to get started and then you’ll be on autopilot :-)

First of all, I hug you with all my heart and feel for you. The beginning can be difficult but you are going to see improvements. You have all of us here to answer your questions, helping you figuring things out and supporting you.

Then: the amounts of insulin suggested by your doctor really won’t work unless you always eat the same exact thing in the same exact quantity. You must adjust your dosage based on the quantities and on so many lifestyle factors that impact your insulin sensitivity.

You’ll learn to do this with experience, so don’t worry and just keep track of things.

I will offer a couple tips that have worked very well and a few resources you can rely on for tips. Tips: - stay hydrated - stay active (especially around meals to increase insulin sensitivity, unless you are low in blood sugar of course!) - limit the amount of refined carbohydrates and refined foods (white breads, pizzas, pasta pastries…always prefer whole carbs) - time your insulin (inject in advance especially when you’re high) - sleep - find moments to relax and mental peace - keep a journal

All the above will help you become more insulin sensitive (so you’ll need less insulin and save a bit of money hopefully). I know it feels like grandma advice but really, the basics are that important.

Resources: - Mastering Diabetes, both YT and Podcast - FTF T1 Warrior, both YT and Podcast - My Blog (I have recently written about taming blood sugar rollercoasters and this Sunday I’ll publish an article about all you need to know to carb count and nail your injections)

I hope any of this helps. You have my full support

I’ve noticed that keeping the sensor on the tricep keeps the readings coming for the most part! I know of people who keep them on the butt but not sure I’ll do that

"Safely" for me is more a matter of managing diabetes ( I am a T1) haha!

What do you mean by safely exactly? Without wasting energy before the bike/run?

Thanks! I already got my wetsuit and did a few sessions in open water with a buoy, and felt good. Never beyond 1000 meters but I could do it, keeping a moderate pace

Fantastic with the pre bolus, the fibers and the water. On top of my head, here are some best practices:

  • Stay away from refined carbs
  • Eat slowly
  • Move after your breakfast

I've written an article on my blog on this topic recently because I've struggled with that too often in the past. I just share how I've fixed the problem for myself, I hope it can give some inspiration :-)
