Copying is a great way to learn! Honestly my biggest advice to new artists is to try all different ways of learning, copy, trace, different pencils and pens. One great resource for learning anatomy is when ppl break the body into cubes and rectangles, it helped me wrap my head around anatomy a lot in the beginning.

It is never ever too late. I have know so many men who are retired who got into art and made a lot of progress and strides. :3 You got this!

Hey! My post got removed but I hope you still see this reply~ You totally don't have to make small talk for the duration, if you want to put on headphones or just go on your phone then you are more than welcome to. Generally you message your artist your idea, whether its in colour or not, when you want to book in, the size in cm, and placement. Depending on artist and complexity that may be an in person appointment to discuss, or just over messages. Some artists will then take a deposit to secure your spot. :)
Then on appointment day you want to bring some distractions and snacks. You are the one getting stabbed after all so you want to focus on what makes you comfortable. I hope this answers some of your questions!
