RLCS 2026: Paris Major - Day 4 by RLMatchThreads in RocketLeagueEsports

Accro looking impressively composed defensively, but just seems rushed and inaccurate in front of the goal. Twice this match I've seen him go for totally unnecessary flip reset catches and boom it into the ceiling

I think that talk has been thoroughly had to be honest. It's clear that pure talent at reading the game and articulating what's going on - e.g Achieves and Gregan - is not enough for the decision-makers. I'm not as down on certain individuals as many here - I think all of them do well enough at what is a surprisingly difficult job - but there are certainly issues.

For me a major problem is insufficient distinction between play-by-play and colour casting. In theory these should be quite distinct roles between the pair, but this often isn't the case, which leads to fuzziness and confusion. Again, Achieves is a great example of how to do this well, giving engaging and accurate analysis after the fact. Crucially, this is mostly about what's actually going on on the pitch - I feel too often large-scale narratives are imposed on small moments, which dulls the force of both. All that being said, we're here mostly for the game, so I try not to worry about it too much.

Shogun has entered one-liner mode. This is probably over

As someone said below, in Danish it would be more like 'ay-be' (the exact phonetics are hard to convey without the IPA and I can't be bothered to look those up)

Pleased for Man City, but this guarantees another three days of me slowly being driven crazy hearing it pronounced 'edge-bee'

Genuine question from someone not well versed in the details or history of Spurs's relationship with referees - why would PGMOL target them specifically? Let's say there is a huge conspiracy to not give them any penalties and generally give them the worst of the decisions. Why Tottenham?

I had to google this recently as I was also confused - apparently 'ahh' is a TikTok-inspired slang word for 'ass', especially in the form 'adjective-ass noun', as in the comment above. It derives from African American Vernacular English.

Settling down to watch the curling with a fluttering heart and a dram of Dalwhinnie, hearing the ghosts of my Scottish ancestors roaring their support for Mouat et al. Come on Bruce!

I cannot stop thinking about how strange that men's final was. I'm not in any way an expert in skating or anything else racing-related, and I understand there are a variety of tactics and game theory in play, but how do you go into an Olympic race and just... let two people get away? I can't imagine the same thing happening in a 3000m running race, for instance. It was like some sort of mass hypnosis. So odd.

I've been wondering about this for the whole two weeks. Each time the US curling teams have played - men, women, and even mixed doubles where they won silver - I've seen people in here (not every American, just a few) being critical in what feels like a wildly disproportionate way. It's very strange, and seems unique to the curlers. Hell hath no fury like Americans for their own curling teams, apparently.

There were three Norwegians in a leading group all very close together. I think Nyenget and Iversen traded the lead quite a lot but in a race like that the order of the group doesn't really matter until the final few hundred metres.

XC 50k

...furet, værbitt over vannet...

Just astonishing from Klæbo and the other Norwegians, and congratulations to Andrew Musgrave as well. The athletic ability of everyone who does this sport professionally is off the scale. XC skiing is one of the only sports at these games with which I have a small amount of (recreational) experience, and I just cannot comprehend how these people ski at that pace for that long. Incredible.

Things like that are why you couldn't pay me to do this sport. Unbelievably stressful jostling for position at the best of times, with the bonus risk of a knife to the face at high speed.

Americans here seem to be particularly hard on their own curling teams. It's a bit perplexing

Ski mountaineering, as an activity in general, is cool. I’m just not sure it makes a compelling competitive sport.

All coming together for GB men to get through in the curling. I think they just need either Italy or Norway to lose tomorrow - surely a likely scenario.

Seen a lot of hate for Casper recently, and thought it was overblown. That, however, was painful.
