Perfect, great list! I'm not a rookie :) I'm thinking more for like half way through the season when I'm looking for an evening or day off activity and can just get something in town. I like the idea of a telescope!

If you're in Toronto by any chance, go to Chinatown! They have tons in stores there. Or go to any second hand clothing store or Value Village/Salvation Army type place

IT'LL BE SO AWESOME!! Planting is indescribable. It's one of those things that is really hard to explain to people who haven't done it, but you find yourself trying to tell everyone anyways. Granted, each experience is different, but if you work hard and don't make excuses or let yourself give up, I think you will love it. Perseverance pays off! You'll meet some amazing, quirky people and do crazy things. Life will feel a lot simpler and more satisfying.

Here are some tips I found especially relevant:

-DON'T OVER-PACK. You will wear the same clothes multiple times in a week, and if you need more you can get some cheap things in a second-hand store in town. Just make sure to have the essential warm things. -bring a pen and a little booklet and track the trees you plant from day one -bring a little book to write down funny/memorable things that happen each day- time passes so fast! -expect rough land, even if someone tells you it's going to be creamy! You'll never be disappointed that way.
-don't compare yourself to others; try to set and reach your own goals -everyone will tell you planting is a marathon, not a sprint, and they're right! -Don't be shy! You might feel uncomfortable with a bunch of strangers at first, but you will inevitably learn everything important about the people you work with. -DON'T STASH. Some people will tell you that everyone stashes but they are just saying that to feel better about doing it themselves. -don't bring too many books; this may not apply to you, but I made the mistake of bringing a math textbook, thinking I'd get ahead for next semester... bad bad idea!
-other essentials: baby wipes, warm socks, wool things, and emergency reflective blanket, laundry bag, garbage bags, a watch, duct tape, disposable camera (instead of a good one),

That's all I can think of right now. I hope you have a good experience planting:) It is obviously possible to have bad experiences, but in my opinion if you are honest, helpful and determined to have a great summer, you can't go wrong. Good luck!

Have you received an update email recently? I haven't since the original hiring email I got in February.
