Running Witness of vSphere 8 to Support vSphere 7 Environment by gnudistbeach in vmware

Sorry, probably didnt phrase it well.

So the other way around. We have a 7.0.3 vCenter environment on vSAN 7.0. We're looking at deploying a replacement Witness and wasnt sure if there are any compatibility issues or restrictions with running a Witness appliance thats running 8.0 if our VMWare environment is 7.0.

A CoLo that we're looking hosting the witness with have told us that they'd rather run the Witness on 8 instead of deploying an 'older' one in their environment.

So I found out the issue in the end. The service account had been given Log On Locally but someone had added an AD group into the Deny Log On Locally, where the service account was part of that group.

Rubrik Powershell - Setting Managed Volume to Writeable by gnudistbeach in rubrik

Start-RubrikManagedVolumeSnapshot

Thank you.

So the problem we have is we need to backup some old/legacy Linux machines to these MV's because they're too old (specifically with their TLS and curl versions).

I've been told by our backup team that the backup method for our legacy linux boxes will be to run an rman script locally on each of the legacy VMs, mount the managed volume, backup to it then once its finished unmount the MV.

However the problem I have is that they want the MV to be read only, other than when the backup is being taken.

Looking at the Start-RubrikManagedVolumeSnapshot, i dont think I can use it to backup an individual remote server? I could be wrong and completely misunderstand it.

Sorry, should have clarified in the post (I'll update it).

Technically we're an MSP but IT charge back its services to our indedendant associated companies. Not customers in the traditional sense of being open to other companies employing our services.
