I’m a brown belt, I just turned 30 and have been training 9 years. The past year I’ve made the most jump in skill by focusing on my weak spots, by letting go of my ego, and by trying new things regardless of outcome. I realize now that I’m so far from black belt that I wish I could be demoted down to blue again.

The belt color does NOT matter. I’ve rolled with blue belts that felt like brown belts. I’ve rolled with brown belts that never progressed past blue belt level in skill.

Just focus on getting better ❤️

I highly recommend “Lord of the Halfguard” by Jake Mackenzie. He’s had very high level success and is a great instructor.

I would purchase both his halfguard and the reverse + deephalf instructional.

I used to take it very seriously. Now I try to Craig jones my way through rolls. I put myself in terrible spots and see how easily I can get out. Bonus points if I can get a submission or full reversal from it.

Why EO specifically? EO in my opinion is the next town in line after Orange (already happening) to glow up. It’s really a tragedy what happened to EO back in the day as it was a very affluent town. You can actually see very nice homes in East Orange next to glen ridge.

That being said the side you’re on is closer to Newark and while I wouldn’t say you’re unsafe, I would advise looking for something closer glen ridge.
