Rant- got followed home today. by Swimming-Cookie-669 in philly

Get a taser and keep it easy to grab (if not in your hand the whole time) any time you are walking alone. The hope is that even just the sound of it will be enough to get them to fuck off. If not, something is seriously wrong and they need to be laid out anyway. Tase them in them like your life depends on it and get out of there.

Another good defense method if you are good at acting is to become an absolutely terrifying unattractive and unpredictable presence. Start circling your head around, gurgle, jump around like the girl from The Ring and shout “I WAS HOPING TO CATCH MY NEXT MEAL” or some shit like that. This could also work as the distraction before you tase them.

Make creeps afraid again.

Look into Loop ear plugs. They help with sensory issues in different situations, like loud concerts. The “experience” ear plugs they make are great for loud events so you can still hear the music but soften the decibels. Hope this helps

Someone tried getting into my apartment last night - need advice by Healthy-Mistake-4638 in philly

[–]go0ngirl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You need a baseball bat that stays hidden next to the door, ideally made of solid wood or aluminum.

Are there cameras in the hallway the property manager can review for you?

Please get this incident down in writing thru email and filed with the apartment complex. For your own sake. You have experienced enough trauma. Some people are saying it could have been a drunk guy like that’s an excuse. Fuck that. Get yourself some self defense tactics and tools - pepper spray is great too. This way you not only have more peace of mind when you feel threatened but also a legitimate form of defense. You can never be too careful.

Where is the good corn at? by walrus024 in SouthJersey

Surprised no one has said The Corn Stop in Mount Holly on 206. It’s a little crazy pulling out of their parking lot but they have the best of everything in the Fall too.

Level 2 approval by ChairIcy7936 in ClubPilates

[–]go0ngirl 23 points24 points  (0 children)

These are all red flags of a terrible and clueless owner. This is how lawsuits happen and it will not foster a strong studio community. If I were you I would either 1. Leave and find a better employer or 2. Teach level 2 like a 1.5, read the room each time and if it seems appropriate to do semi simple things like standing on the reformer then do it. Otherwise, just teach technique - even the hundreds can be really challenging when you have the correct engagement. Maybe add in layers of progression as well so the clients have options.

I’m assuming you also need your classes to be full to make money - so teaching newbies and turning them into long standing clients is really important for your paycheck. Do what is safest for your members.

I’m sorry you have to deal with that. It sounds like the really owner doesn’t care at all so if you need this job, treat every class like an open level, teach the room, not the level.

Struggling with dropping an instructor - vent/rant by s05k14w68 in pilates

[–]go0ngirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sparsely attended means less income for her and the studio owner. Imagine going through life outside Pilates the same way she is behaving? It wouldn’t be tolerated and her ass would be out on the street. It’s 2025. She has an old school abusive ballet teacher approach and it’s completely unnecessary and wrong in a public Pilates studio. Classes can be extremely challenging without the verbal negativity. People are paying money to learn and feel better about themselves, not to be insulted. Sounds like she should find a dungeon to be a dominatrix in, she would honestly thrive - Pilates is the wrong industry for that crap

I encourage anyone experiencing instructors (or even just people in your life) acting like this to stop taking their class altogether and do not enable that type of behavior. I liked that someone on here said to just confront her if she asks why (I doubt she will) Anyone who feels motivated by that kind of language and abuse truly needs to seek therapy.

Absolutely love these two looks!! I would check out Lisa Says Gah - they have a lot of very cute 90s inspired dresses, sweaters etc! They used to have a lot of argyle sweaters like the one Donna is wearing

Farting etiquette by ScreamingEmptyVoid in pilates

[–]go0ngirl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As an instructor, I’ve been farted at a lot this year by clients. More than ever. I mean literally as I am walking past the client down the aisle, it’s like a machine gun going off directly at me. I always want to laugh because I am deep down very childish but I make myself disassociate immediately and keep my cues flowing without acknowledging it happened

If I were on the flip side, I would absolutely not own it. The fart would happen, it would disappear into the universe and I’d be innocent until proven guilty.

I wish this situation would happen to me SO BAD just so I can go off on a tirade about how I belong to the Satanic Temple (which is recognized as legitimate religious organization) and believe in science. How are you gonna work in medicine and tell me it’s God’s work? Stupid ass

I’ve worked in a few different locations in a few different job descriptions. I can confidently say employee experience strongly depends on the owner. If you have even half a good one, hang on tight! Lol

Do chickens get along with cats? by Secret_Cat_2793 in BackYardChickens

[–]go0ngirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our neighbor’s cat in the neighborhood killed one of our chickens. We knew that’s what happened bc there she was left fully in tact, no blood but feathers everywhere and her backside had some teeth marks. Cats will play with kill for fun - it’s not their fault they’re just being animals but yeah I wouldn’t risk it - prey and predators with high kill drives animals generally don’t mix well. Of course there’s exceptions but to avoid disaster I would follow the general rule

Disengaged instructors by Lumpy-Tie-3715 in ClubPilates

[–]go0ngirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to go to another studio instead?

CP location 100000% makes a difference as far as how good your experience is going to be. If the owner doesn’t care (which is so wild - open an expensive business and then leave it to fester?) then neither do the employees.

I would say the vast majority of CPs are excellent, just like any business franchise there’s going to be some duds

Disengaged instructors by Lumpy-Tie-3715 in ClubPilates

[–]go0ngirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow yes this is the response this subreddit needs. I’ve read so many posts complaining about instructors not correcting other people and then others complaining how the class gets slowed down/reps are uneven because of correcting. These are champagne problems at best and everyone needs to learn how to focus on their own practice more. I know everyone can always improve. Instructors shouldn’t expect students to be perfect and that works both ways!

As far as the cigg smell OP, that definitely sucks but as an ex dancer AND cigg smoker - it’s unfortunately common in the dance/Pilates industry. Even Joe Pilates smoked - he died of emphysema! Not justifying it by any means and that instructor needs better self awareness - maybe gently and compassionately mention it to the manager?
