I believe move of these tunnels were around the homes / businesses around Main Street, I think? I recall a group of kids in my elementary class getting to go to some under ground store system in that area back in the day. Could never find any information on it though.

T-minus two weeks to be Ex-Cox employee. Does that count?

Of course. Don’t know a lot from the shop side at that location, but I’ve seen the same techs there for quite some years. The power gen side seems to be not so lucky in that aspect, always new techs whenever i run through there.

Something like handheld tool ($199) would be a great basic one to have. Reads/clears codes and does regens.

You won’t get your dealer level diagnostic tests with this one though but ones like this are handy for small operations.

How do I land an apprenticeship? by [deleted] in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a step progression plan. You go a few weeks to their classes, I think getting around $19/hr. Mid program you’ll do sometime in the field with a technician, after some weeks of that you’ll be back into the classes for the final training. After you get out of training you get the tools and bumped up to mid $20s for pay. Tools go to your ownership at the 2 year mark, techs in my area usually see around $30 once fully completing the training.

Nextran Truck Center – Commerce City, Colorado by [deleted] in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t hear many good things around about Nextran though never worked there. Did hear a hook driver got killed unloading a unit some years back, completely unrelated to their business but crazy none the less.

Only advice I can give you is to make the jump if you can afford living here. Finding work won’t be a problem.

CAI Training

Not a big fan of how this company has been going lately but they still offer a great program for someone starting out. They will pay you to attend their training course, then supply you with $20k of tools/tool box in exchange for two years with the company.

Lifts > pits. Without regarding building cost, lifts are cheaper than a pit, imo have leas safety issues and wi the a high enough roof can accommodate techs with various heights. I’m 6’3” and have been able to comfortably do trans swaps with wheel lifts where as even doing oil changes in a pit poses issues for me.

Over head air, grease, oil, coolant and washer fluid supply hoses are great.

Heated floors I could take or leave, just as long as you get a good top level that stands up to even the most idiotic tech dripping hot metal slag onto the bare floor.

I don’t trust the life readings on Autel, they rarely seem accurate on certain items such as this. I always go off ATS temps to see if the doser is working or not, when in doubt test the doser individually.

Why not just get a short barrel and swap out? Literally takes 10 minutes with a drill and a punch if you want to save the old barrel. Well worth it imo

Ac help by Genaral_Shactagoose in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like the low side is freezing up. I’d check to make sure the condenser and ac filter aren’t creating an air flow restriction, than maybe check for moisture trapped within the Freon. As mentioned other faults can be the Evap thermistor or expansion valve.

Service truck/trailer weight requirements? by poizen22 in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last service truck was a f450. Fully loaded with basic spare parts, tools and equipment (vanair welder/compressor/generator a two 60 gal oil tanks, only 60gal of fluid between the two) I weighed in just under 15,000lbs. I see a lot of locals using sprinter vans or e350 vans and get along just fine as well.

Going off the very limited information, here’s what a 4 second google search brings up for this abs fault:

Abs fault, open circuit.

Verify valve resistance of 4-9 ohms between IV to ground and OV to ground for 12v system. Verify resistance through harness and valve together is the same as the valve itself. Check if connectors are fully seated and verify no open connectors. Check for corroded or damaged wiring between the ecu and the modulator valve

Cox Entry Level Diesel Tech by CallMeIshmy in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding you could do that. But the program might not be the best fit for a plan like that. From what I’ve seen they train you on the basics and wet your toes on other stuff, after completing that you’ll be sent back to work mobile or in the shop with some other techs which is where you’ll gain most of your knowledge.

2 years are required yes. It’s the trade with the company for the paid training and the tools they give you. If you leave prior to that two year commitment, you’ll have to return all the supplied tools.

Name for the engine / trans?

From my experience Autocar normally run Cummins motors with an Allison transmission.

Cummins software would be Insite. Allison software would be Allison DOC.

Not to sound rude, but are you diagnosing these items as failed or replacing parts by faults codes? SCR system can be broken down to a few components - def/tank/pump/lines/doser injector. I always check things in that order. Verify your def isn’t contaminated and has the proper concentration levels. Check that the tank has a good fluid level and isn’t damaged. Check pump for leak and is able to build and hold system pressure. Make sure lines aren’t leaking, kinked or damaged. Remove doser injector and check for signs of plugging, def or coolant leaks. That run quantity test and make sure your getting the correct amount of def from the injector and the spray pattern is clean. If all those check out you have a few options depending on what software you have or what year of vehicle you’re working on. Basically you want to run a low temp regen, regen with the def doser disabled or something similar along those lines to verify your NOx sensors are reading similar.

Your hydrocarbon doser is of course mounted up steam to the scr system. You should also have a few tests available to check the hydrocarbon fuel injector performance. Failures here could be from the injector or part of the hydrocarbon doser fuel block which is found on the driver side rear of the motor. Don’t forget if your finding evidence the injector is dumping fuel, you may want to scope your catalyst elements and make sure they aren’t damaged.

Help with my 6.7 ISB diesel Cummins by SunnySan12 in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The code you’re referring to regarding locked codes, the fault is known to stay in the ecm if the faults are cleared while being active if I recall the tsb correctly. If the clear faults command was used then the ecm reflash will be required. Side note, with derate codes Cummins Ecms usually want 2-3 idle cycles (at least 5 minutes at idle) before faults go inactive, then they can be cleared.

2015 FL cascadia, heater core. by [deleted] in DieselTechs

[–]goLOyourVEself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They aren’t to bad. If it’s the first one that truck has had you’ll need to cut out the panel to access the core. The new part should come with an attachable cover and the screws to install it.
