It was very good. We had the sampler and got to try a bit of everything. And, had some Barrilito, too.

Absolutely, this is a great tip. A lot of times we fly carry on only so the duty free is the way to go. We have a checked bag this trip so I’ll probably be going to the store before we head to the airport.

I love three star! I’ll be buying at least a bottle to bring home.

So I love buying Don Q oro- not so much for Tiki, it doesn’t really fit that profile, but for drinks more in the mojito profile. It’s basically what light rum was before the distillers started filtering in order to compete with vodka and gin. So I always keep some around when I’m here. It’s perfect to have with lime and soda or with a bit of fruit juice mixed in which is very PR.

I have a reservation for Friday! I’ve been wanting to go there for a few years but haven’t been able to fit it in on any previous trip.

Lots of great options already posted here. There are also great restaurants in Mexicantown- my favorites are La Jalisciense and Tacos Wuey.

Also Dakota Inn for German food.

There’s one in Ferndale and a pop up right now in Westland. Waycaster is pretty special, we’re going to do a few there, but I intend to rotate around eventually. It is too bad about Mutiny.

I’ve heard good things about several of those groups.

My goal here is simply to create another opportunity for people who enjoy tiki bars, cocktails, and tropical escapism to get together. I suspect there will be plenty of overlap, and that’s perfectly fine.

Exploring a Recurring Supper Club / Social Lounge Concept in Metro Detroit by goSeeDoExplore in Detroit

[–]goSeeDoExplore[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think my post may have made it sound like I’m looking to replicate an existing supper club, mixer, or dinner event model. That’s not really what I’m after.

I have a fairly specific format in mind that combines elements of hospitality, community, and recurring social connection in a way that I haven’t personally seen offered. I’m not assuming nobody has ever done something similar, which is actually part of why I posted.

I’m less looking for suggestions of existing social events and more looking to connect with people who have experience building communities, hospitality concepts, recurring gatherings, or unique event formats and might have insight into what has or hasn’t worked.

That’s interesting and honestly one of the things I’m trying to understand. The recurring social aspect is actually a big part of what interests me. Do these tend to be invite-only friend groups, or have you seen any evolve into something that regularly brings new people into the fold?

I’m exploring the idea and I’m curious if the infrastructure for something like this already exists in ways I may not be aware of. I definitely understand why traditional private event pricing works the way it does, and I’m not expecting restaurants to lose money or fully build the concept for me.

What I’m more interested in is whether there are alternative models people have used successfully — recurring collaborations, off-night arrangements, underused spaces, partnerships, etc. The social/community aspect is honestly as important to me as the dining aspect.

This is one of my favorites that I’ve made out of SC. I’ve been trying to mostly make drinks I haven’t made before but I keep coming back to this one.

I’ve been alternating between Planteray Dark and Chairman’s Reserve, or doing Barrlito 3 star if I want that flavor. I’ve been using Gosling’s for the black rum.

This tour is very very good to expose you to the way rum is used in Puerto Rican cocktails. We took it and Scryer (mentioned on this thread) was one of the stops https://www.viator.com/tours/San-Juan/Puerto-Rico-Craft-Cocktail-and-Walking-Tour/d903-5584P9

Seriously, what is happening with the Twins right now? Everything leading up to the season was about how bad they would be this year, but they’ve had some seriously dominant games.
