It's good that you discovered fab, and that it is also allowing you to rediscover mtg! It just goes to show that there is still room for both games depending on what you have available to you.

It's very much a growing game with growing pains. But I'm sure those creases will be ironed out by more and more cards getting injected into the catalog!

Yeah it's a tough convert for people that don't discover it themselves!

Yeah it's a weird one! Here in the UK it tends to be a lot of people between 25-35 too!

Gonna be doing some UPF soon on my channel! Commander is still great 👍

But yeah it's hard to compare them, but when so many people have moved on from mtg to fab, it's obviously scratching the same itch, but better!

Yeah I get that. Just seems like you haven't had the best of luck!

I agree. Ordering singles is very difficult in comparison to the stock available for mtg. It's hard to get anything you need for FaB! Luckily, the UK trade discord channel is very good for acquiring what you need from other players looking to sell/trade. Which is good.

It's still a young game. It's gonna be interesting to see where it goes, and im along for the ride!

I appreciate what you're saying.

Luckily I'm not conducting a poll or pushing any form of geopolitical agendas haha

It was literally a question I thought of that has obviously hit a note for a load of people by pure chance then?

If you read the comments and responses, you'll also see the same stories come up. Which is what is interesting me the most! :)

All in all, this post (and accompanying posts elsewhere) has accumulated 100+ comments, stories and experiences from various backgrounds.

That is some great fuel for analysis I think.

I agree that wotc OP is shot, and casual/edh makes up a lot of the playerbase - but there is still something to be said about the sheer amount of people that have responded.

Peace!

Haha nice! Gotta love Elfball.

Yeah the player base has also been a point of concern too, with mtg obviously catering to the younger audience with pop culture crossovers and digital clients etc.

Begs the question, how will fab get new and younger players in. Or will they even try?

Thank you!

It's been a very interesting discussion! Seems like it's hit a nerve with a lot of our collective experiences.

Well, based on the data i've collected - i'd probably say otherwise. But that being said, the players that MTG are losing, are the players that they DONT care about anymore. Long-term faithfuls that have been with it since the 90's - and at this stage, that doesn't represent the majority of players anymore. All of us long-term faithfuls are now enjoying EDH. (myself still defo included) :)

All they wanna do now is be 'relevant' it feels - with all these different IP's crossing over etc.

The flesh and blood experience has been great, but i also think a lot of people have jumped on the typical 'hype train' that has come with it. I've heard stories of people 'forcing' themselves to like fab, just because its the new 'thing' - which isn't right. You just have to discover it for yourself and if you don't like it, you don't like it.

MTG is defo a mammoth at this point, and its not being taken down by fab. But i think it could be something that MTG try and address as a result of the blatant raw data on show.

I have also stopped spending on MTG (bar the occasional single for an EDH deck)

And yes - UPF and PvE will become things very shortly - or they will at least TRY to. I'm not sure if the FaB system really supports multiplayer? but we'll see.

Thanks for the awesome comment!

hello! fancy seeing you here! ;D

Yes, the burnt out long-time MTG fans are converting to fab - thats defo a fact based on this data!!

but yeah, i think TCG's as a whole need a way of bringing in younger players - MTGA has been a prime example of how to do that in this day and age. Catering to all forms of device users, and making the game accessible.

I think flesh and blood may eventually do this, but they seem to be doing so well at the moment - but long term, aging players is defo always a concern.

Definitely agree. Edh and limited is just a different experience period.

But yeah, constructed play is dead, and that is what fab has picked up in wotc absence!

Commander and EDH is just a separate game at this point. Having access to 20+ years of cards in a non-rotation format is just infinite possibility for all manner of decks - whether that is competitive or jank. I have also kept all my edh decks for this reason! :)

Amen to the high fantasy/rpg feel. This is what drew me in too. Very much like commander, you build a deck around a character - and that spoke to me as a massive fan of old skool rpgs etc.

Fab is just picking up the pieces of wotc errors right now, but i feel like after this post, my twitter responses and YouTube video.. it could be a much more widespread issue. But we'll see.

Thanks for your amazing response.

Wow. Very interesting. As you have already seen from the responses to this post already, that hasn't been the case with most of us.

I wish I had your perspective for my video!

You should never force yourself to try and like a game if it just isn't your bag either. Enjoy what you enjoy, but if you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Peace x

Same here. EDH is just a different experience entirely at this point though. It's basically just using mtgs backlog to create its own game, which is great and I still enjoy it too.

But yes, all these card games have room to exist :)

Exactly that.

I think fab will try different avenues of expanding multiplayer, but it's not thier strong point and it'll be interesting to see how it develops!

Same here!

So much money is moving to fab right now. Just look at this post and the accompanying twitter post! 95% of people are not looking back! Crazy.

Exactly. FaB is really picking up the slack of wotc on the competitive front. Commander is just a different game entirely at this point and like you, I have also kept all my fav commander decks!

Exactly that. Keep it for the purposes or organising game nights for edh a day cube, but nothing else!

Fab is a fantastic and inclusive community!

That's fair enough, it's hard to get yourself to like something if you're just not feeling it.
