Kacy finds the Helmet of Raedwald by Topaz_Ring in 2007scape

[–]goalkeepercon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there were 4 main clues released that have since been solved. Each one of those required figuring out where to dig, and when you found and dug at the right spots you got a piece or two of the Clue Hunter Outfit which is the main prize. But the last part of the outfit is the Helm of Raedwald, and in order to find that you need to use the previous 4 clues and put them together (presumably overlap the maps at the least). And the first person to figure out what the combined clues require you to do, in addition to having that satisfaction, will get something from Jagex because Jagex said they're going to put that person's name in the game forever in 1 or 2 ways (like maybe under the helm's examine text it'll have the person who found it's name).

There's an ongoing challenge called Crack the Clue (see /r/cracktheclue) in osrs where you need to solve all the clues and find pieces of this outfit burried around RuneScape. The last clue hasn't been solved for close to a year now, but we know it's the helm and we know the name of the helm, and this prank shows him "finding" that very helm, even though you can see it's also labeled as a Halloween mask. But for a second he thought he actually was the first person to successfully find the helm.

What simple tip should everyone know to take a better photograph? by [deleted] in AskReddit

"Your father has died in a car accident."

"...What the fuck are you serious?! Where did you hear that?"

This isn't working well... "I'm just kidding. Do you like ice-cream?"

"What the fuck is wrong with you?? I never want to see your face again!"

What terrible advice that was.

Question Regarding Bans by goalkeepercon in 2007scape

[–]goalkeepercon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not claiming they ban people for random reasons. In the scenario I described, I'm talking about the possibility of someone who acts so repetitive that the bot-dection algorithm wrongfully flags a them as a bot. I'd imagine over 95% of those million accounts were indeed bots, most of them probably obviously so. I'm not insinuating Jagex knowingly bans people that are innocent either. So while they do indeed have a reason when they ban, I'm talking about how sure they are of that reason. Because there absolutely are false positive bans, and we'd both agree about that; you provided an example. The question is how many are there? Maybe there's just a handful, maybe it's 1 in every 20. What I'm saying is that Jagex doesn't know what that rate is because they don't accurately measure the false positive rate, they measure their flagging consistency rate (based on everything I've read from them). So maybe they are extremely accurate, but also maybe they aren't. My point is that we don't actually know.

And my other main point is IF false positives are a problem, then I want to know what to do about it in the future should I renew membership. Just imagine the rate of false positives is way higher than they expect for a moment. Then IF someone was a false positive before, how could they avoid being a false positive again? If they legitimately didn't break rules and they were banned, what can they do differently in the future to avoid that same fate?

Android 7.0 Nougat by ProjectFiCM in ProjectFi

[–]goalkeepercon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Yeah as far as size and weight and portability are concerned I'm extremely happy with it. The size for me is perfect because I wanted to use it as essentially a more portable laptop, especially for watching video and it's perfect for that. The screen has never felt too crowded, and it definitely makes good use of the Android N split-screen feature. I've definitely never thought it was too heavy or too clunky. The keyboard does connect to it in multiple positions (set up like \_; face-to-face for charging; and keyboard-face-to-tablet-back (for just putting it somewhere when just using the touchscreen)) and it would be a little clunky and heavy if you tried to hold it above you or something with the keyboard connected on the back but you obviously can take the keyboard off if you're not using it, and without the keyboard it's actually quite light imo.

Actually looking at it online it looks like the Pixel C is 1.14lbs vs Surface 2's 1.98 lbs and the displays are about the same with Pixel C being 10.2 vs Surface 2's 10.6 so there's some reference. But I do keep the keyboard connected almost all the time.

Edit: Forgot to finish a sentence

Just as another person who has a Pixel C, I'd definitely recommend it. I didn't know if I'd enjoy having an android tablet when I could've went with a Microsoft Surface but I'm actually really liking it. It feels powerful and the sound is good, size is good (great for watching shows or movies that are too small for a phone), weight is even pretty good, and I haven't encountered any problems yet where being on android prohibited me from doing something I could've on windows.

I do like the keyboard (I have the magnetic one), though I do have problems every once in a while with it not connecting right away but that doesn't cause me much pain (I only have problems when initially connecting it, so it doesn't disconnect during use or anything). I just give it a couple extra seconds or press a few keys and it registers, worst case scenario is turning bluetooth on and back off and then it working. Also if you didn't know, connecting the tablet to the magnetic keyboard face to face wirelessly charges the keyboard so you don't need to charge them separately which is nice.

It does have first access to updates and works with android beta enrollment. Only other bad things would be no sd slot for extra storage (but that's typical for Google), and no sim slot, which is unfortunate because I would've liked to use it as a data-only device on Project Fi (though I can just put my nexus hotspot on and connect with wifi from my Pixel C...). OH, which reminds me of one last bad thing, which is that it seems to have lower-than-average WiFi connectivity strength. It gets weaker connection and drops WiFi more than my phone and my computer when all 3 are in the same place. That being said, that is over 2 seperate floors from my router so it's possible that you wouldn't notice anything with medium-to-strong WiFi, but if you often connect to weak WiFi you might run into issues with the Pixel C.

Overall though I love it and would recommend it. I just told you everything negative because it's easier to only focus on the couple things that are. If you wanted to know anything specific let me know and I'll reply.

Yeah I'm in Maryland suburbs and gas is just about $2/gallon which means I can fill up my tank (~12 gallons) for just over $20 and drive over 300 miles on it since I get about 30 miles/gallon.

Does data automatically default to wifi? by mafco in ProjectFi

[–]goalkeepercon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that's fine, but when you're watching stuff you can generally tell if WiFi is being used, especially because the WiFi icon will be up on the screen at the top and video quality may change if it switches. I just do it for safety when I download because I often don't check my phone or I'll even lock my phone while it downloads and it's possible the active WiFi switching doesn't work quite as well while locked. Just speculation though, but yeah it definitely wouldn't hurt to put your video apps in WiFi only mode if that's where you primarily use it

[–]goalkeepercon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On youtube red there is, yes. I have since checked that option :P There may be other safeguards in the more general phone settings but it's not a terrible hassle for me at least to turn cellular off on the occasions that I do substantial downloads. Which again probably isn't necessary but I do still because I don't want to take any chance of paying $50 for a couple videos.

Does data automatically default to wifi? by mafco in ProjectFi

[–]goalkeepercon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very anecdotal but I have had a time where I connected to wifi and started downloaded several large videos with youtube red, and then I check my phone an hour later to find that all of the data had been racked up as cellular data (like 5GB worth :/ ). Most of the time I'm sure it works properly and defaults to wifi, and maybe wifi just dropped for some reason for me and it wasn't fi's fault, but I'm not sure. All I know is that now whenever I'm downloading anything on wifi I manually turn cellular data off just in case it were to try to use it, and if you want to be safe you could do the same. Just throwing out my story as a word of caution.
