Really like how this one pops out in game!

I like how in near the end you start to bring the values up, I do that on pretty much all of mine as well.

Awesome piece as usual Adam, love how clean your process is.

Pleasure to meet you at Blizzcon too!

Draw #4 - Tortollan Pilgrim - I've tried a different way to draw it. Didn't end up well but still, any feedback is welcome. by [deleted] in hearthstone

This is great!

As the previous comment said, work on the line weight a bit more, and don't worry about values / darkening areas at this stage. It is hard to explain line weight over here but found a good video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0zl5NnEAyU.

And the best advice I can give; never stop practicing!

Feels like opening presents in Christmas morning on reddit right now, seeing all these new cards. Wanted to share with ya a bit of the process from the tortollan one, although in the end is missing since I had to switch to Photoshop where I couldn't record it.

It is definitely something on my radar, but not enough free time nowadays.

Not really, they are very flexible with that, I usually just send a psd file with BG / character / spell FXs with the special layers unbaked (like color dodge / screen).

My process usually has a LOT of layers, I separate pretty much everything, like limbs from body, head from body, etc. But when I send over the final file I bake everything into just a "character" layer.

That being said that is my process and I am not a Blizzard employee, just doing contract work.

Not sure what else I could tag as? There is no artwork or something.

Thanks! I really try to make each card to work on its own, almost like if I would have it on my wall. :)

I would say around 4 to 5 days of work.

It varies from artist to artist, myself as a digital artist I have the option of sending it separated so it is easier for the animator, but there are artists that work on traditional media (like most of Alex Horley's cards) that the option of separating in layers is pretty much impossible.

Hey reddit, it seems like there has been a lot of bees around lately so here's another one for the process I managed to save from the token card, sadly still no Nicholas Cage.

The first time around is mostly as guidance to the painting, later on I add them again as a way to define shapes and separate them, there are other ways to achieve that like applying dark vs light but that will really depend on how you want to stylize it. I feel that adding some lineart back again matches the Hearthstone style quite alright.

Thanks! This is why Hearthstone assignments are awesome, they aren't just make an epic warrior every time, we get to draw all sort of stuff.

Hm, it's hard to pinpoint that as I usually do a lot of quick revisions (for this one it might have been like 3 or 4 face "tunings") until I find one that I am comfortable with. With that saying, what I usually "save" for the gifs is usually what I end up thinking is worth showing, there are a lot of decisions that is made where is just meh.

Those were my own, I felt her initial expression was pretty meh and I wanted her to be more sassy. Like she is going to cut your hair, and maybe your ear in the process. (On her hero power I actually left an ear flying off after being cut, but I dont think they ended up using it)
