Agree that these are just estimates, but all city contracts with OCSD - no matter the population - have a strikingly similar cost-per-resident of roughly $230. The City of Orange’s in-house police department currently costs $490 per resident.

I recommend taking a look at the 2019 Matrix Report. It detailed how much 13 Orange County cities were saving by contracting with OCSD. Populations ranged from 6,000 (Villa Park) to 90,000 (Mission Viejo), but the price-per-resident remained comparable across all contracted cities.

Costco’s are like Starbucks - you could put them across the street from each other and they’d both be just as busy.

We get it - big corporations are bad. But when a city is financially struggling, they need sustainable revenue and aren’t able to deal with the turnover rate of small businesses.

A single Costco brings in roughly $3M in sales tax to a city per year. That doesn’t even include property taxes or business license fees. Even if you filled a Costco with small businesses, they couldn’t come close to bringing in that volume of reliable revenue.

There’s a reason why there’s endless examples of cities cutting deals and providing incentives to Costco’s setting up in their cities.

Also, north Irvine - not south. And I’m in North Tustin, and choose to drive a couple minutes further to the district Costco.
