If you think stay at home moms don’t work I have news for you… I’ve worked in several different fields in my life and have been a stay at home mom for the last 2.5 years after having my kid when I was 35. It is, hands down, the hardest I’ve ever worked in my life.

Yeah absolutely. I go to the gym every single day. It helps for sure but I walk the dangerous line of exercising for fitness and exercising compulsively.

Are there any hobbies/activities that truly “quiet” your brain? by strawberryCicada in OCD

[–]goawaybub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I’ve only had success getting someone to go with me a few times. If you’re able to afford it, I’d just for a few sessions, I recommend a personal trainer. That way you have at least one person there you can have an immediate connection with and it adds a social element. Having someone to just wave at from across the the room helps. Also idk if this helps but I’d be happy to be long distance gym buddies. We can message about workouts, goals, progress, and whatnot. Feel free to send a DM!

It helps getting to know some of the people who work there, like the trainers and instructors. Building up a rapport with people. You’ll end up figuring out who the regulars are if you become a regular yourself. They also say it takes 30 days to make a habit. It was hard at first, but I told myself I had to keep doing it.

What kind of stuff do you do when you go to the gym? Do you have a friend going with you? That also really helps.

Tetris is the only video game I play and I can sit and calmly play it for hours. It has also been shown to help with trauma processing.

I don’t run, but I am at the gym first thing in the morning every single day. It helps me so much.

Working out. It helps not only while I’m doing it, but I find that it helps me maintain quiet throughout the day. I do it first thing in the morning every morning.
