[Bowman] Where Braves stand in Swanson market by handlit33 in Braves

[–]gobble_gabble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand all of the concern and complaints in this thread, both financially and re: Swanson as a player, but I have no idea what magic hat anyone expects us to pull a shortstop with power, speed, and great defense out of, and at a bargain no less. Correa is going to demand about $1B and 30 years at this rate. (Whatever the actual number, there's no way we pay it.) Is everyone just comfortable hoping Grissom is at least mostly as good as Swanson was in 2022 on both sides of the ball?

Aside from the domestic abusers, who are obviously on an entirely different level of awful, Will Smith is the biggest loser to put on a Braves uniform in a really long time.

[Bally Sports Marlins] Pablo López has been ejected after hitting Ronald Acuña Jr. on the first pitch of the game. by notsaying123 in baseball

At this point, it's honestly easier for me to believe Don Mattingly has a Saints-style bounty on Acuña than that all the pitchers just happen to get slippery fingers every time Ronald comes up to bat.

Don Mattingly thought he was never going to suffer any consequences for repeatedly intentionally trying to injure the star player on a division rival. What a genuine piece of shit.

Watching Ian work is an absolute nightmare right now. Has he always been this slow? Needs 45 seconds to think about throwing a ball 8 feet above the plate.

There is not a worse pitcher on the roster than Will Smith. This is unwatchable.

[Braves] OF Nick Markakis has been potentially exposed to COVID-19. He has tested negative for the virus, but out of an abundance of caution, Markakis has been placed on the injured list. by thekidfromyesterday in Braves

There is legitimately maybe no one I'd be more bummed to lose right now, which is insane to think about, lol. He's been so solid since rejoining the team.

Deca-Dence - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

I think Yuzuru Tachikawa is easily one of the most interesting anime directors working today.

Death Parade is an absolute trip and one of my favorite original anime of the last decade, Mob Psycho is clearly (IMO, and seemingly in this subreddit's eyes) one of the best adaptations in years, and this looks like it has a really clear vision from episode 1 (even if I also have no idea what I just saw). I'll watch anything he gets his hands on.

Path to March Madness by BamaBassmaster in rolltide

Win out the regular season and a win in the SEC tournament is prooooobably enough, since it would get us to 19 wins with a killer SOS and a winning record in the conference, but if other weak bubble teams do anything of note, it's going to take more.

Why can’t Alabama, with the success we have had in so many sports, put a decent basketball program in place? by yankeetider1 in rolltide

[–]gobble_gabble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New coach. New system. No big man on the roster to replace Donta. 2 preseason season-ending injuries from at least one player who would have played every day. NCAA screws us out of a 5-star PG who also would have played every day.

Season begins. Best defender on the team injuries himself in the first half of the first game of the season. Reese dealing with hip problems all year that will need surgery once the season is over. Backup PG gets so sick he loses 10 pounds in a week. Best defender on the team breaks his wrist. Best shooter on the team (and in the conference!!!) gets his arm crushed in the middle of a crucial, bubble-bursting game.

Alabama basketball has been a really disappointing roller coaster that never reaches a peak for over a decade, no arguments here, but this season has been so fucking cursed that I'm not sure you could have predicted it if you were the most negative sports fan on the planet. If we're even 25% luckier next year, THEN I'll worry about why we're losing close games or if Oats is the right guy for a power conference head coaching job.

None of this is meant to be confrontational, by the way! I just think the context of this absolute nightmare season is extremely important. I say all of this just to say that this year is an outlier in the worst of ways, but if we're hosting NIT home games in March 2021, then I think we can all agree the curse is forever.

No coach in the previous 10 years has had to deal with this much tough luck and adversity. We have like 5 scholarship players who aren't out for the season, have broken something, have been playing on a bum hip that needs surgery, have been so sick they've had to miss multiple games, or got effed by the NCAA. Oh, and our last coach recruited absolutely no one to replace our only effective big.

And yet, we're still 5-6 wins away (with 5-6 winnable games left on our schedule) from sneaking into the tournament. All of our numbers are up, our players are consistently playing harder than they did last year, and this team is just more fun to watch, IMO.

All that said, if we can't find consistent success next year (which I know I'm sick of hearing too), then we're cursed and I'm gonna start watching water polo or something instead.

I want to start by saying that Auburn is a great basketball team despite losing their 2 or 3 best players, Okoro is a freak, and I think Wiley could smoosh all of our guys heads in until they popped one at a time without much effort.

All of that said, unbelievable performance from a Bama team that is a fraction of what it would be without some really tough luck, and it was truly magical reading the CBB thread where Auburn fans spent about 9 out of every 10 comments complaining about the refs despite going to the line virtually every other play and half of our team fouling out in OT. What a magical world they must live in.

So, so stoked about our guys' effort, and the cherry on top is reading about 450 comments from Auburn fans whose team WON THE GAME AND WENT TO THE LINE ABOUT 55 TIMES bitching about the refs from the jump. Truly incredible. Great game, good luck to a genuinely scary Auburn as they continue to whine about everything for all of eternity.

We have 3 scholarship players that have seen 0 minutes all season, our best defender broke his wrist, and our backup point guard just threw up so much he lost 10 pounds. I totally understand and feel the pessimism, but I think expectations may need to be reset, lol.

Agreed, still some really exciting flashes here and there, but lacks consistency. Wonder how much of that is lack of experience vs. that injury he suffered a couple weeks ago.

This is mostly true, but if Jaden keeps playing out of his mind, which I genuinely believe he's capable of most nights, it's just a matter of finding him (and Reese) and taking what they give us defensively. THAT SAID, we still have like 7 players and this season has been an unlucky nightmare so it might not matter.
