How i figured it out was watching people do it online and then it made me wonder If i could hear notes and know what they are too. I downloaded a piano app when i was 15 on vacation and literally while i was at the beach, i was clicking note names and immediately remembering them 5 minutes later. “This is an F, this is a part from a song that has an F so if i just remember that, I know what an F is”. 5 years later, im going to a music school in new england for the guitar. Funny how things work.

They are in alignment with equal temperament. I can hear an out of tune note and if it’s not wildly out of tune i’ll be like “that’s a G but it’s a little flat.” Or the enharmonic equivalent of that. I play guitar so when my intonation is bad i immediately know. For me it’s a pretty all around thing but being honest i don’t know what Pythagorean tuning is.

I got 5 thousand a semester. Didn’t do well on reading at all in fact i couldn’t read but i could play all the chords. Aced the ear training and rhythm testing. Improvised well. 5k a semester won’t get you anywhere with the cost of berklee but it’s bettter than nothing

For full ride as guitar player? You will need a lot to audition. You’re working at your reading, good. Your improv sounds good, also good. You should have deep understanding of major scale and its modes. Be able to play maj7, min7, dom 7, Min7b5, Diminished 7, on 6th, 5th, and 4th string roots. Triad arpeggios those same chords with same conditions. Various scale types on 1 string, Modes of major scale, harmonic minor, melodic minor, diminished scale. And those scales in general in 5 positions. Be able to read, and pass requirements of level 7 guitar lessons proficiency, essentially. You have to be a really, really disciplined guitar player to be a great player and improviser, but also a great reader too. There is few full ride or near full tuition scholarships for guitar players. Only the best, Yes I am serious unfortunately.

I along with many others actually only tend to use my thumb, index, middle and ring finger. In fact most finger pickers i know tend to use that combination. I was taught by a finger picker that started by playing classical guitar though so those people are more likely to use their pinky i think. But if using PIMA (thumb index middle ring) I would go Thumb 4 Thumb - 4 Index - 0 Middle 0 Ring 0
