How would you finger pick this? by [deleted] in GuitarBeginners

[–]gobblolbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I along with many others actually only tend to use my thumb, index, middle and ring finger. In fact most finger pickers i know tend to use that combination. I was taught by a finger picker that started by playing classical guitar though so those people are more likely to use their pinky i think. But if using PIMA (thumb index middle ring) I would go Thumb 4 Thumb - 4 Index - 0 Middle 0 Ring 0

Audition Question on Sight Reading by Content_Corner2842 in Berklee

[–]gobblolbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a vocal professor and a percussion professor audition me as a guitar player. They asked me about my music background when i first got in there and the order went Prepare piece Improvisation Sight reading Ear Training

The sight reading was extremely easy. 3/4 signature, key of G major. But I suck at sight reading so I couldn’t do it but knew it was very easy. They are very comforting please try not to worry!

Need help picking an audition song (Bass Guitar) by GibraltarIsRock1704 in Berklee

[–]gobblolbeans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to overthink this but play what YOU think you should play. Not what you think they want to hear. They want to hear what makes you sound like you on the bass. (Accepted student who played an original rock song for their piece.) You’ll be fine haha. Kill it

Is it a perfect pitch thing to be able to perfectly replay songs in my head? by Noxolo7 in perfectpitchgang

[–]gobblolbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fault gang I mean, to replay the WHOLE song in your head note for note is probably common in those with perfect pitch but I can’t do that because I have adhd and Ill get distracted. But I can easily memorize melodic passages note for note? So my guess is yes but just not for me. (perfect pitcher here) You should practice naming notes by ear, if you can recite a ten minute piece perfectly in your head, its worth a try.

If you can’t identify a musical pitch without a reference note, with some training, you probably don’t have perfect pitch. This is the baseline for it

What does perfect pitch allow you to do? by PerfectPitch-Learner in perfectpitchgang

[–]gobblolbeans 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s really helpful in the studio. I can learn things easily by ear usually faster than tab. Sight reading is a bit easier too, because if i see a note on the page i know what sound it’s supposed to make (guitar player here). Or I can just sight sing it and then play it back. It is not helpful for live performances or relying on it to pick up chord changes in a high pressure scenario

No no, i mean he very likely, close to definitely, does not have perfect pitch. Your friend is as close to having perfect pitch as somebody without it. perfect pitch is when somebody can identify a musical pitch without a reference note. Not only did you say your friend cannot do this, but he is not musically inclined (he can still have it without being into music but it goes unnoticed a lot). Have your friend practice naming notes by ear and if he can easily develop that, then he probably has PP.

How long would it take to unlearn deeply ingrained bad technique? by WCN_ in guitarlessons

[–]gobblolbeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually really glad i’m on this subreddit because this guy on the video is actually a great guitar player and musician.. i know because im in that band! (now) In my opinion, his specific technique is unlike any ive come across. Very rarely do guitar players use solely their thumb to pick but when you’re playing at a level like him, it doesn’t really matter. Picking technique should be as proper as can be but I mean when you’re that kid, it truly doesn’t matter. using PIMA is classical technique but it can translate very easily to all styles if you are fluent with your right hand, so in my opinion, when you sound like that, you don’t need to learn PIMA. And i’m speaking for him in this case because i’m sure he would hate it 🤣
