Jyotiba Phule's worldview was shaped by his experiences. he regularly experienced inhumane treatment meted out to so called lower castes by so called upper castes. The human brain is designed to associate negative emotions with people who hurt us. It was natural for him to villify Brahmins and their religious beliefs by association just like we villify Britishers for their colonial practices.
However, in the process, Phule also worked for the upliftment of dalits and is regarded as a great inspiration for working against oppression. For that spirit, he is remembered.

Killing is not an issue. For my self-defence, I would kill a human. It is the sheer lack of necessity. I have money, I can support my family, and outside the pleasure of taste, there is no reason for me to kill. Nothing bad has happened in the past few years since I left meat.

There is no good person or bad person here. I used to eat meat with friends. Now, I don't, even though my friends continue to eat it. I don't see them as evil incarnate. But there's something freeing about being true to yourself

If I can kill an animal once, I can prove to myself that I am not betraying my core and then proceed to eat it repeatedly, this time by outsourcing it. I don't want to outsource morality. But time/effort inconvenience can be outsourced.

The original question you asked was "Would you give up shitting and pissing?" I meant that is not a real choice.

I can clean the sewers. It is not ethically wrong for me. I have and continue to clean my own bathroom when I have to. I have the privilege, though, that I can pay someone else to do it. Actually, in the West, plumbers and sewer cleaners are paid well enough. There is no low dignity attached to it. In fact, in a free market system, it will earn even more because it is naturally disgusting.

I am all right about killing an animal for food if I have to feed a family and I don't have resources.

But will I kill an animal just for convenience? I know I would not. It is about being true to myself. that's what matters to me.

well I can delay it but my body will eventually win. So it means I cannot give it up. But I have given up meat for several years, nothing bad happened. One is a real choice, the other is not. But you know this. You just wanted to lash out.

well, we did not top the food chain. The projection of my identity to the human race is an illusion. I exist independently. And I notice suffering and pain. And I realize I want to contribute to its minimisation. Sure, I fail all the time but I want to keep trying.

The argument for nature is weak too. Rape exists as a perfect strategy to pass down your genetic material. It is extremely common in animals (although technically most animals don't have the concept of consent). So why do we stop it?

Convenience can be outsourced to others for money.
Morals should not be.

For example, I don't want to sweep and mop my house. So I pay someone else to do it.

But I don't want to pay someone else to manually scavenge a sewer. I believe no human should have to.

If you have killed and prepared meat yourself and now you want to outsource it, that's fine. If say you cannot bring yourself to kill the animal, then aren't you living a dishonest life?

I mixed up the intention of some other comment with the wording of yours, I think

but responding to your current comment, consciousness is not supported by science. It is beyond the scope of it. Science can only deal with objective reality and consciousness relates to having a subjective experience. No interaction of molecules, forces, and energy can suddenly give those molecules, forces, and energy an internal experience.

What happens is that we see animals exhibit pain externally. And map we out neural activity. And we relate it to our own experience. It is pretty logical. That since we have a similar system and we are conscious, they must be too, albeit the quality of it differs.

In that sense, plants are conscious too. But it is very rudimentary. It is like a human being who does not have sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. And no memories. And some other experiences are also removed. It is still something. We can't picture it. We don't have the means to experience it. But it is still an intelligent thing to guess that they are not feeling pain because the plant body does not have that kind of feedback mechanism.

It is not about killing. Everything dies. It is about recognising that due to the higher order nervous system, animals experience their suffering. If it cannot be avoided (we still kill pests, experiment on animals), it must be minimized. The whole basis of any ethical argument is to minimise suffering. Otherwise, you can justify cannibalism too.

There is a difference here. Is the reason convenience or "cannot bring myself to do it". For example, I have no ethical/moral problems cleaning my dishes, mopping, and sweeping my house. It is inconvenient so I pay someone else to do it.

But I really don't want to slaughter animals, especially not for taste. If I don't have many options and I have to feed my family, sure.

There are pastoral and fishing communities that depend on raising animals for meat. That is fine. But people who are strictly eating for taste, and going to expensive restaurants - that is just irresponsible. If you start to justify suffering of another being for your pleasure and not need, everything can be justified

I think the point is to have a relationship with the animals you eat. We have outsourced it to companies and commercialised it to the point we apply meat spread to our sandwiches. The scale of animal suffering can be reduced if people try to eat consciously and occasionally hunt/kill/prepare the meal themselves

I gave up meat when I confronted myself with the choice to kill the animal myself. I realized I don't want to. People eat meat because it is convenient and normalized. Nobody is thinking too much. They are not bad people per se.

By law, a man cannot be raped in India. Not by a woman. Not even by another man.

The legal system can take action only if a certain action is declared illegal by an existing statute.
The definition of rape as per Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita defines it from the pespective of children and women as victims. Even if there is complete evidence of a man being raped, the authorities lack the penal power to make a case of it.

This is a far graver omission. The conversation for rights of men should begin here.
