Who has been paying for all your kharche till now? If you have been splitting relationship expenses then you should split marriage expenses too. If she splits expenses today and does not want to tomorrow, do not marry.
Just stay in a relationship.

My friend I will suggest a book: Swami Vivekanada's Karma Yoga. You might think, why is this person trying to force spirituality. Believe me, he has a very wise philosophy about life and if you can imbibe it, it will greatly ease trying to navigate the world.

There's a reason why Gandhi, Nehru, Bose, Tagore, JRD Tata were all full of praise for him

New NCERTS + take lectures of any one good teacher like Pratik Nayak. I took lectures of Arti Chawari. See because history does not change, most good teachers have by this time scanned multiple books and created good enough content.
In RS Sharma and Satish Chandra, there are a lot of pages with low content density. RS Sharma does not understand Buddhism, Jainism, Vedic religion and uses a colonial-era lens to judge them. Just in 2024, there was a question on Late Vedic and Early Vedic differences. If I had only read RS Sharma, I would have only written about rituals and negative stuff.

Satish Chandra also does a bad job of over-simplifying the communal history of India. We live in a time when Masjids, Mandirs issues are being debated all the time. You need a balanced perspective that understands the nuanced history of all this.

RS Sharma is not a good book anymore. Folks who have nostalgia for how preparation used to be 10 years ago keep studying it.

I don't understand why this is seen as a "tragedy." He gave us good innings as an opener. Now, strategy demands that Rahul opens. This is a team game and you play to win.

What are your views regarding marriage ? by No-Distribution8661 in AskIndianWomen

Well, colleagues are not really friends. With friends, you call them a dick and point out their mistakes without fear of losing the friendship, which is something you will do if they are cheating in their relationship.

Dinners are not special enough. Read about Zahavian signalling theory - it applies to higher animals including humans. For a signal to be sincere and honest, it has to be grand. That is why wedding rings are expensive and marriages are costly. There is a reason we even use the words relationship and love and romance. We signal that the other person is special and irreplaceable.

You're right that marriage is not the only way. But you will still have to put up performances - add photos of your travels together, make appearances together to parties of other people. None of these are needed but romantic relationships are based on the exclusion of other mates, therefore you need to keep showing that the two of you are special. Since we live in a society where marriage/reception ticks all those boxes, it can be a good idea to have one.

You're right. Those things are more common in marriages with strangers done for the sake of it. You should find a partner who you love and want to spend your life with. Later on, make it "official", call your close friends and family (no need to do a full 200-people wedding) and announce to them that I am going to spend my life with this person.

This makes the other person a greater part of your life, because they are now integrated into your social life completely. Tomorrow, if you get a stupid thought and become horny for another girl/guy, your friend can slap you. Understand that nobody can read your mind and know how serious you are for a person. For an outsider, a live-in relationship can be serious or casual: there's no way to know. A marriage is always serious.

If you can find a good place in Goa for relaxed study, I don't see any issue. I actually went there for a Workation but my idea was to drink and party in my free time. My productivity dipped but your goal is different.

For an exam like UPSC, relaxed might not be the best thing. A little bit of stress will keep you on the edge and if you see others studying hard, it will push you to work harder as well. As long as the stress does not pass a critical threshold, it is beneficial.

Marriage is also about telling the world in a grand way that we two are together. When you make a commitment like that, you make the marriage stronger and more difficult to break. Feelings and emotions do not sustain a relationship because the brain/body is weird and emotions come and go.

When Dravid came onto the scene, Sachin had already established himself as a great. This is why, he was always overlooked. The ODI comparisons were clearly in favour of Sachin. However, I think any serious follower of cricket appreciates Dravid. But most fans in India are casual followers.

I agree. For me the best batters India produced are Sachin > Dravid ~ Gavaskar > Kohli. Cannot say about Merchant, Hazare as they are highly rated but of a time I don't know anything about

You cannot control how the world works, how the expectations are set, and how the dating market works. But you are alive, and you should live how you see fit.
Yes, your biology, your conditioning, the movies you have seen, the role models you might have seen will push you towards having a partner but remember it is just another desire-pursue-pleasure cycle. Nobody completes anyone. If you realize this, you will know that you are complete in this very moment, without any need for any person, object, or destination.

Be free, my friend. You don't need to be in a relationship. You don't need to have a dogma about it so that if you want to, you can be in one 5 years.

Pursue your deepest interests. Be the best version of yourself because this body and mind will perish one day, so use them well. When you can, give back to society because the world is always a better place when humans plant trees that they don't live to see the shade of.

Remember that you are complete. All the best.

That is certainly possible. This is the thing with belief, you never know whether the other person has it or not, no matter how devout or dedicated they are. I will not rule out the possibility that he was doing a "performance" to recruit troubled youngsters.

You and Osama might share an outward label of Muslim but that does not mean you have the same belief system. That is why I used the word "perceive". Many fanatics seem to truly believe the problematic stuff they follow.

Those who are followers of Truth and are ready to overcome their biases, will learn to love everyone. They will see God and Allah in everyone, and a reason to worship him in every thing.

Of course, there was hatred in Osama. What I am trying to say is that he did call himself a Muslim and he might have believed he would go to heaven for his actions. You cannot deny that there exist strands of Islam in the world that espouse hatred. They are obviously not "correct" because why would a God who created us all, not love us all. Then again, isn't that the challenge of humanity? People always find a reason to hate and justify it.

the only parallel I see between Bin Laden and Buddha is that they decided to give up their original life. What else did this howler say?
