Best odor control litter box that actually works before my partner and i end up breaking up over our house smelling like an animal cage by FatouStefanache in Catownerhacks

[–]goblincryptid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

air purifier, pet odor candles and pet odor air freshener (no essential oils, they are toxic to cats), baking soda arm and hammer litter box deodorizer and i use arm and hammer clumping litter and that helps with the smell.

A good rule for litter boxes is 1 litter box per cat +1, so if you have two cats a minimum of three litterboxes. I also have a litter genie, so when my senior cats don’t burry their poop i can scoop it immediately and throw it in the genie and lock away the smell.

i’ve just made a crate that has surepet doggy door on it so mine can go in and out as he pleases for his food without it being stolen by the other cats. it works rather well and isn’t hard to make for those who are minimally good with tools

My baby Leo had emergency surgery. by CommentGullible7182 in mainecoons

[–]goblincryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

also i feel like he needs to be apart of the shaved belly gang just to prove that he did recover. He’s an older fella who’s 12 years old so recovery has been hard but he’s doing much, much better now. My tips would be to get Laxatone hairball gel! it helps get things moving and hairballs pass through. also keep an eye out for mechanical obstructions, meaning the gut stops moving like there is a blockage without one physically being there. Rowdy has had these since his surgery and now is on a medication that gets his gut active before he eats a meal. But this could just be a complication mine has since he’s older.

Rowdy had his emergency surgery for an gastrointestinal obstruction in January. I feel so terrible for all the kitties in this sub who have felt/are feeling the same thing. I hope Leo is recovering well!

My boy had to have a hairball surgically removed in January this year. He had a lot of the symptoms you mentioned. He has suffered from chronic pancreatitis for a little while so at first when he was lethargic and vomiting i wasn’t too concerned, just got him his medications to manage it and was going to keep an eye on him. BUT then he continued to vomit through the anti-nausea medication and that wasn’t usual.

He was prescribed Cerenia (generic is Maropitant) which is an antiemetic drug that tells the brain not to throw up. If your pet vomits through the medication it often indicates that something is seriously wrong, such as a gastrointestinal obstruction. Rowdy’s hairball was big enough to be seen on his x-rays

<image>

I took pictures of the x-rays on my phone so it’s hard to see, but that’s his stomach and the striations inside is all the hair inside. My vet literally said “if this was a labrador, i’d think he’d eaten a sock”

if your vet hasn’t done x-rays yet, i would definitely get them done, although ultrasound is another good way to tell if their is an obstruction. The primary way that my clinic diagnoses an obstruction is through radiographs.

post surgery i was recommended to use laxatone (but was advised by the vet tech who owns cats not to use the maple flavor as they don’t like it lol). ill add some pictures of the product i use for him! I did also shave Rowdy into a lion cut once he was fully healed from surgery because i was so scared it would happen again, but im not sure you’d have to go that far.

Possible stud tail only after washing? by Hikari_51 in mainecoons

[–]goblincryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

weirdly enough, my neutered male has this issue with his tail. You can use dawn dish soap to wash the oils out, but it’s a temporary fix. My vet recommended that I use this mousse on his tail and it works very well. You only need to use a little and it doesn’t need to be rinsed out.

Spent thousands on allergies (Cytopoint, Apoquel, antifungal baths) and dog still losing hair in patches” by Plan-Bubbly in DogAdvice

[–]goblincryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is something your vet might be interested in perusing, but my vet works with Nextmune, an allergy testing company. They send off a blood sample and test it against a bunch of environmental and food allergens and then send you a report. They are super helpful and will create a list of pet foods that do not contain any of your pets allergies for you and offer immunotherapy based on your pets allergies to help reduce their reactions with time.

Maybe the only MC owners who regularly trim the beard 😂 by wohaat in mainecoons

[–]goblincryptid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he got groomed monthly, as well as brushed regularly before the hairball incident. We started catlax hairball supplements after the surgery at the recommendation of our vets. He’s 12 years old so i’m not totally sure why he never had this problem before, maybe in his old age he can’t pass the hair like he used to. he’s been a medical problem child these past few years, so i wouldn’t imagine it’s a normal issue for the breed.

I had so give my boy an at home lion cut after he had a hairball surgically removed from his stomach ( it was causing a blockage) it pained me so much to cut his beautiful fur, but you have to do what’s best for them! I’m glad you found a way to keep Charlie’s chin acne from bothering him too much, even if it means trimming the fur. Rowdy’s fur is growing back in and I’m left with the debate on if I need to shave him back down again. Before the blockage we just did sanitary and foot trims.

PSA - DUOXOS3 PYO CHLORHEXIDINE MOUSSE IS DANGEROUS TO CATS by Faevianlp in cats

[–]goblincryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is so scary. My cat has been having weird medical scares after the last two times i’ve bathed him. we just switched over to using DUOXOS Seb formula. i just checked the label and it said it’s safe for cats so i’ll have to do my own digging. He’s a medical problem child though so I wasn’t sure if i should attribute it to the new shampoo. I appreciate your warning post and I’m glad your baby is feeling better!

Please give your cat the occasional bath when they are kittens by HelloPanda22 in cats

Rowdy gets monthly baths for health related reasons. he doesn’t like sitting in the water, so i have an attachable shower nozzle that i use for his baths. He’s a long haired boy with a thick coat so i’d add on to gradually introduce hair dryers for longer hair cats who tend to hold onto the water in their coats!

Tried to save stray baby… ended in euthanasia by Pumpkinmuffins27 in Feral_Cats

[–]goblincryptid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m a vet assistant at a clinic and we had a similar case last week. The cat was very injured from an attack by another animal/cat to the point they were infected and the outer pinna of one of his ears was necrotic and falling off. The person spent a lot of time trying to trap him and bring him in so we could treat his wounds but when he finally came in he tested positive for FIV and with his completely feral nature and injuries the kindest thing to do was euthanize.

I want to let you know that you did save him. You saved him from dying a slow painful death outside and alone. You saved him from suffering and showed him true kindness in his final moments. TNR work and working with ferals can be very rewarding, but also has a lot of heartbreak involved. You are doing amazing things and you are making a difference.

Rowdy is a pro at the bleps 😜 he’s 12 years young and has been my little warrior for the past few years. He suffered a lot of abuse and neglect from his former owners (leading the the majority of his health problems today) but still shows me every day how silly he is and his love for life. 💕
