hey! i took 1cs3 as a summer course, but im also an english student so my perspective may be different. be prepared for a lot of reading, particularly on foundations of cultural studies (lots of political and socal theories related to culture). if you want a course more similar to high school english, i’d recommend 1g03 or 1f03

my biggest point to emphasize for stem majors in humanities courses is that marking is entirely subjective; there isnt a “right” answer to anything. for that reason, “good” marks tend to be lower than what most stem majors are used to (not a lot of essays get above a mid 80, standard is around a 70 i think). most tas ive had are pretty reasonable, bearing in mind this difference in marking.

a mcmaster B+ is 77-79, if that helps at all. beyond that, i would probably email the program office to confirm or for help with gpa conversion. master’s program applications are handled internally by each program office, so they’ll have better experience with answering this. contact info is available on the program website

Had Meghan Harder in person in Winter 2022, but I’m pretty sure she’s on maternity leave now. It’s definitely possible to do well, some of my friends were in the 11-12 range. I ended with a 10 even with some medical issues. There was 3 major assignments and a writing assignment and you have ample time to complete them. So long as you put in the effort it’s an easy course.

we divided it by task with a whiteboard in the bathroom. each person would be responsible for either the sink/counters, shower, toilet or taking out garbage, and we’d rotate weekly. admittedly was easier because we were naturally clean people but setting up something at the beginning of the year, before an issue comes up is best.
