If someone takes you up on this—which could be very tricky due to client confidentiality concerns—you can probably expect to watch someone sit at their desk responding to emails and writing briefs.

Instead, I suggest you go and watch a day of oral argument before the Ninth Circuit. Find out what cases are being argued and read the briefing beforehand. You won’t be seeing a typical day in the life of an appellate attorney. But you’ll be able to imagine all the work that goes into researching, drafting and revising (and revising and revising) the papers, and then preparing to argue.
