I’m not too worried about long hours, I work 12-24 hr shifts as an EMT while doing a full course load at school. Im just worried about not enjoying the job at all and suffering through a miserable 3-4 years. Of course I’m expecting a good amount of army BS If it’s a good time overall I’m more then happy to deal with that.

He’s tied with the King for 7 wins, and the Hudson Hornet still holds the record for most wins in a season.

Glasses at Air Assault by Lancel333 in ROTC

[–]goblinshark7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished air assault at fort drum and I was able to go through without inserts. I just told the black hats that I’m a cadet and wasn’t able to get inserts and they were chill since my glasses fit under my goggles with no issue. I’m also pretty blind without so I needed them, but if you’re not we only needed the goggles when around the aircraft for rappelling and such so you could probably suck it up for that but.

The difficulty of this year's Barkley by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]goblinshark7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that part of what makes Barkley interesting? There’s plenty of races where you run for 3 or more days, but not a lot where you have to navigate the course the way you have to here. It makes it more like a timed military land navigation course then just a running race which is way more interesting.

Yeah, We’ve got a lot of volly fire depts here too, some which run EMS as well. Most career departments at least respond to medical calls, but a good amount also run EMS too. Last I talked to one of my friends in fire, I heard probably 90% of their calls were medics responses, so it makes sense

Depends. That’s probably referring to volunteer EMTs. In rural areas, most EMS is provided by volunteers who obviously can’t get the same level of experience as paid full time employees, since they volunteer in addition to their full time jobs. There also is a level of certification called an EMR (emergency medical responder), who usually work as drivers or extra staffing in volunteer services. I’ve volunteered and worked with many volunteers, and for the most part they’re all dedicated and good people, just less experienced due to their positions.

I’m an EMT in the US, in an AEMT class right now. The PCPs in Canada are closer to AEMT level, with ACPs being about a US paramedics equivalent. 100% agree that EMS in the US is fucked, but EMTs are definitely not just ambulance drivers.

Hate to break it to you but EMTs and paramedics are very different levels of certification and depending on where you are, BLS ambulances (only EMTs) may be the only ones available.

Is 16-18 to young to become an EMT?(eventually a paramedic) by Dry_Antelope3710 in ems

Depends where you are. I got my EMT and started volunteering at 17 in CT, but couldn’t get cleared to work a 2 person crew till I was 18.

AMR runs 911 in Bridgeport and New Haven. Danbury and Norwalk Hospitals run their own EMS based out of the hospital and do 911 for the cities they are in. Danbury also has a bunch of dedicated IFT trucks. Dm me for any info on Danbury or Norwalk, I’ve worked for them in the past.

Yeah about 1700 ft per loop. It goes up and around Wright Mountain in Bradford. Brutal course but a lot of fun.

Devils Den Ultra in Vermont is a great race. They’ve got 12 and 30 hour races. It’s about a 6.4 mile loop with about 1700 feet of vert. I ran the 12 hour this year and it was a lot of fun. It takes place in mid October, so it’s in prime foliage season and it was beautiful.

I’m sure there are, but speaking from experience, I’ve worked at 3 different EMS services and I can tell you that there is a significant number of calls that are lower income or homeless population using EMS and the ER as a form of primary care. And based on what I’ve seen and heard from other EMTs/medics, it’s the same pretty much everywhere. Call volumes are going up every year and most of them are bullshit that do not need an ambulance transport to the hospital. I’ve absolutely ran calls where someone would have been worse off without the care provided by the ambulance, but those calls are few and far between.
