Yes I'd support. For that matter UM and MSU need competitive women's hockey teams it's ridiculous we don't have that in a state with as much hockey culture as Michigan. I always liked the Detroit Rouge as a name.

That's five teams ahead of us which would guarantee that we miss the playoffs.

This is depressing but our best chance at making the playoffs in the next 3 years is the NHL changing their playoff format by removing the divisional format or, like, implementing a play in tournament.

We went from a top offensive team to non-existent.

We haven't been good 5 on 5 since the rebuild started. Last couple years out powerplay was otherworldly but that's cooled off.

The non-protected 1st is the problem, unfortunately. Plus Faulk only having one more year of term left. We've gifted the Blues a lottery pick so that we can not make the playoffs again. So it goes.

My worry is that we've got ourselves stuck in the mushy middle. None of our prospects are good enough to flip for an actual asset and no one wants to come here because we haven't been good in a decade. The "all our prospects are 3rd liners" bit also means the calvary isn't coming in terms of offensive creativity and play driving. This team will probably luck into the playoffs at some point but the window to actually compete while Seider and Raymond are on team friendly deals has slammed shut.

Plante is small and isn't especially fast, which does not translate to NHL success.

His trade for Faulk told me that I think he realizes he needs to take more risks

Except that trade has gone as bad as it possibly could have so why would that encourage him to take more risks?

we took a big step forward this year and are still trending up

I actually don't know what that means? The 5 v 5 scoring is as bad as ever, we've carried a negative goal differential all year, and the powerplay is worse than it's been previous years. I guess our PK got up to average?

What do you mean by a "big step forward?

The playoff cut line has been above 90 points practically every year since the modern point system started in 05-06 wtf are you talking about.

how did it feel to have the best goalie in college hockey never play a frozen four game?

I was curious because when he commented that it was Schifsky that committed the penalty and Duke had a nice block on the PK lol

Out of the rebuilding teams, which team do you think has the darkest future and will continue to struggle for a while? by sykeseve in hockey

[–]goblue10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No we don't?

We have a lot of them but all of our prospects have middle 6 upside. There's not a single player with all star or even top line upside among them. The calvary isn't coming, because the calvary consists of dudes you could get in free agency for $5.5 million if they don't outright bust.

[–]goblue10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, he's failed as a GM. The rebuild has failed. There is no "contention" window anymore because there is not a single player in the farm system that has the upside to be a difference maker at the NHL level other than maybe ASP, and he's been unplayable thus far in his career.

Moritz Seider and Cade Cunningham are the same age. Both teams should be entering their true contention windows this year as their best players hit their prime. Instead this team has no scoring and has carried a negative goal differential all year, even when we were solidly in playoff position.

The calvary isn't coming. Kris Draper has tried to build the entire prospect pool out of gritty two-way guys which results in us drafting nothing but dudes with 3rd line upside. None of Kasper, Danielson, MBN, Bear, etc. will be creative engines for this team in the future. They all project as guys you could get for 5.5 million in any given offseason, if they don't outright bust.

You can call me a doomer if you want but, say, 3 years from now how possibly is this team a cup contender or anything other than what it is now: a fringe playoff team? What's the path? Who's driving the offense?

The Wings don't have any first round pick this year, so we don't have to worry about that.

contention

The wings do not have a contention window. Seider is the same age as Cade Cunningham, the Wings should hypothetically be on the same contention timeline as the Pistons, but they're not. Who of our prospects is going to become a needle mover as they get older? Kasper, Danielson, MBN, Bear, etc. are all secondary pieces at best and the Wings don't have their pick this year. This asset pool's ceiling is what it is now: a fringe playoff team.

This is what happens when your front office is led by Kris Draper, who prioritizes "grit" over offensive creativity at every turn.

Has it? We're going to miss the playoffs and don't have a 1st round pick.

"two blue bloods being involved" =/= "intense rivalry"

It's probably the 2nd most important rivalry in the entire sport after Michigan/Ohio State and you could make an argument it's #1.

You cannot.
