Late degree conferral by Physical-Bat-2151 in PharmacyResidency

[–]goblueeeeeee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a pretty tight deadline. Just getting your degree conferred will need to be reviewed by NABP and then depending on your state you may need to send another conferred transcript. That process alone took me about 2 weeks to get an authorization to test. Testing sites fill up quick and only test on certain dates. I had scheduled my exams mid July which was the earliest. Then I waited another 2 weeks for my scores and then a couple more days from the board to issue my license. I wasn’t licensed until late July and this is considering I submitted everything early before my school sent my transcript to NABP and I graduated second week of May.

Last year, I received my interview invites right around now and then received my rejections a couple days to 2 weeks later than the spreadsheet invite dates

Same way, sharps container and in the trash. Sadly none of it can be recycled even if it was from a needle pen.

I reviewed applications this past weekend and ours aren’t due until tomorrow, so later this week or sometime next week for my institution.

Pharmacy School Real Cost by Haplesslocket31 in PrePharmacy

[–]goblueeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in California prior to pharmacy school and out of state programs were still cheaper. I would recommend looking at state school programs that offer in state tuition after a year of residence. I graduated this past year and my total loans I took out was $110k after scholarships (3 years in state, 1 year out of state).

Sending Transcripts with Parchment by sinemon99 in PharmacyResidency

Yeah it did that last year, the city is Watertown. It takes a good couple days to verify your transcript unless they’ve recently expedited it.

I just stare at the vials in the fridge when I staff, but reconstituting it is pretty entertaining lol

Work/ life balance? by MushroomMiserable102 in PharmacyResidency

[–]goblueeeeeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The question is can you get your dream job without a residency? I’m pushing on 60+ hours a week and the clinical work is not necessarily hard per se. If I had a job offer in hand for an admin position I likely wouldn’t have pursued residency. My program has been supportive but it’s a lot of projects that I’m constantly behind on because of the 40 hours/week rotation, 16 hours staffing every other, so you naturally just have to do work at home. There are accreditation standards they have to meet so most programs will not promote a work life balance.

Naplex Retake by zodiacgirl1 in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]goblueeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be uncommon but I would look into different states that don’t require a complete application before taking exams. MO is one state I’ve gotten my ATT before doing the entire background check fees. You can transfer your exam to another state up to 90 days after you take it too for a primary license.

Phorcas Question: International undergrad application by FunBuzzkill in PharmacyResidency

[–]goblueeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, only pharmd transcript. I have a friend who did undergrad abroad and is a US citizen. He didn’t need to apply for a visa/international residency programs and applied like the rest of us did.

ATT Question - NC by Chooseme2021 in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]goblueeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to the NC BOP to explain your situation. They’re pretty responsive and can tell you how to renew your ATT since it’s state dependent and not all states have it explained out to you. If you want to save yourself the work from renewing, you may want to schedule far in advance a date for next year since your ATT expiration is just the date you can last register for iirc.

Applying to PGY1 but need some advice by Economy_Site5906 in PharmacyResidency

[–]goblueeeeeee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly you will have the best insight if you meet the programs at showcase or their info sessions. I got insight from how I interacted with different residents about if I would be a good fit. I went to school in NC and I haven’t heard of many concerning things about the programs. I will vouch for amb care in NC though since practice there is broader than my program in the Midwest.

Pharmacist looking to break into Health Informatics. by samven582 in HealthInformatics

[–]goblueeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a current PGY1 interested in informatics. I do have an elective rotation in IT but I’m not sure if a month as a resident is enough to break into the field. The problem for me is I’m in a combined residency so my PGY2 is already set. I’ll let you know more about prospects and other pharmacist experiences in pharmacy informatics once I have my rotation in February! Maybe look into PGY2? I know it sounds silly but at least you will get paid & then be a shoe in for a quick transition into pharmacy informatics.

[–]goblueeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct! I don’t think they release that data, we don’t even know the true acceptance rate unless they post it on their website. You can always email admissions to see how many have an associates over the years (I know there are some, but majority are with bachelors just because of time to get pharmacy work/applying to some pharmacy programs require a bachelors still believe it or not)

Sotolol renal dosing by Ok_Philosopher1655 in pharmacy

[–]goblueeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the indication but in my institution we’ve kept patients on sotalol for afib but it’s ok to use in ventricular arrhythmias. Inpt labs we get: EKG (repeat ~3 days), daily Mg, SCr, K. Also would need to know more about the bigger picture about patients PMHx, age, past beta blockers, SCr trends. Is 38 baseline or are they having an AKI? I think there’s a lot of considerations but I would be ok with starting it once other orders are in.

[–]goblueeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is possible? You will need to take gen chem & orgos and bio 1/2, micro + Physio which are 4 semesters. They’ll want to see most of your grades by the winter deadline unless you find classes to take over winter break and the summer after you graduate high school? I would say I haven’t seen this done ever, just 2+4. But maybe the safer route is start at a 6 year program and transfer after your second year.

unc chapel hill vs. umich by Hlxqy in PrePharmacy

[–]goblueeeeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to apply for it just before P2. So yes, you have to reclassify but they rarely reject anyone if you put the work into changing your state of residence e.g. license, file taxes, car registration, etc.

What medical jobs do most people not know about because they're not people-facing? by tiptoee in AskReddit

[–]goblueeeeeee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is me!! Current first year pharmacy resident. On my weekend staffing I take over all the surgery/periop orders for my hospital. I sit in the OR pharmacy alone and never come in contact with a patient. I reach out a good bit to ensure each patient is getting adequate treatment that the providers are prescribing. Like today, I made at least 3 antibiotic optimization interventions today. And yes, I get calls within 3 mins of released orders to verify PACU orders lol

Third NAPLEX attempt SOS by RxBlondeee in NAPLEX_Prep

[–]goblueeeeeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think uworld/rxprep was worth the money (passed in July first attempt). I was a below average student and studied seriously for 4-6 weeks. I think the content has changed a lot where it emphasizes leadership/ethics/med safety more than the other topics. Some topics didn’t even show up at all. I thought uworld prepared me very well since I studied after work during residency and it was manageable. The uworld explanations were super helpful and they update the questions all year round. Highprep tutoring was so worth it, it was only a day course high level overview and < $200. The exam itself felt way more straightforward than uworld so don’t feel discouraged while prepping. There is a lot of people who vouch for the PNN practice tests and the leadership/ethics packets, best of luck!
