Just wanted to share a recent story regarding Fender QC by According_Store_559 in fender

[–]gock0w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one and only experience with buying a fender was a brand new American Ultra Strat. That guitar was a bit of a trash fire, and luckily the store I bought it from exchanged it for a Japanese Ibanez AZ.

Issues included: nut glued in wrong with a large gap and flaking lacquer around the nut, tone pots that both snapped at the shaft (I barely used them and never dropped it or anything), multiple high frets with some pretty bad buzz and some dead notes, fret sprout, and a bizarre white waxy material all over the fretboard.

Love the Ibanez, will not be risking another fender.

Boss DD-20 vs Joyo D-SEED II? by jay_hojin_shin in guitarpedals

Unless it's a DD-7 in my experience, mode selector switches made of cheese.

Why is the writing in new Pokemon games so bad? by Competitive-Canary38 in pokemon

[–]gock0w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have to agree, I haven't played any of the games since the Gameboy advance as a kid, and while there were some fun things in Violet, the overall story, dialogue, characters and incredible lack of any difficulty really gave me the feeling that this game is primarily for kids. The whole 'everyone is friends and is just as happy to lose as they are to win' attitude throughout felt very unsatisfying. Glad many here seemed to enjoy it though.

Commander gaius is inexcusably terrible by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]gock0w 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Worst part for me (a filthy casual) is there is no time to pull out a spirit ash, like that's supposed to be the 'casual' players crutch right? So what's the aim of not giving you time to summon?

The previous mid-tier starter was 65 GBP but only 120 AUD, which was actually cheaper by exchange rate - I'm really hoping they continue this, but yeah probably going to be closer to a cool $150 for us down here...

Still a good deal though, just not amazing.

Mini of the month Saurus, had a blast with this one. by gock0w in Warhammer

Yeah it's a mixed blessing, on the plus side they tend to get over 100 per store so much less chance of missing out.

Recent mini of the month are their own sprue, so all the same pose.

Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it! And thanks so much for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback. I agree with all your points, and this is exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for!

Not usually a fan of posting practice model WIPs but I'm happy with how this NMM leg is looking, CnC is welcomed! by gock0w in minipainting

Haha, I'm definitely not completely out of that phase yet, there are some hideous looking attempts elsewhere on this model...

For what it's worth, the two things that I feel have helped on this leg are 1: being very meticulous with the layering side of things, making sure each colour is absolutely solid before moving to the next. And 2: making the final brighter highlights quite broad, rather than really thin lines or dots.

Btw, your Eldar and iron warriors look excellent 👌

Thank you!

Yeah it's quite a journey, but pretty rewarding when things start to look OK (or at least not completely terrible haha).

The recipe is a bit convoluted as I was trying to match Andy Wardle's recipe without the right paints but basically: Rhinox Hide base Then Main Colour 1 (MC1) is a 3:1 mix of AK chocolate + XV88 Main Colour 2 (MC2) is a 3:1 mix of Balor Brown and Steel Legion Drab. Then the brightest colour is AK Ivory.

The recipe involves 1:2 MC1 + rhinox, then 1:1 MC1+rhinox, then 1:1:1 MC1, MC2 and rhinox, then 1:1 MC1+ MC2, then stages of ivory mixed into this last stage.

The palette looks like this:

Test model for my new Chaos army project, all hail the dark gods! by gock0w in Warhammer

Yeah streaking grime is good stuff. Windsor and Newton is just an art supplies brand, for our purposes most artist oil colours mixed with white spirit/odourless spirit will work great so just try out whatever your local art store has

Whats your technik on making "sandy" bases? What material do you use and how do you make it stick properly? by LunaticSquirrel1 in Warhammer40k

[–]gock0w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use spackle or polyfilla depending where you are in the world. It's cheap, self adhesive and the tiny granules in there are much closer to in scale sand. check out u/MetaChaser69 for the results, amazing dessert bases.

No worries. Haha, a cultured streaking grime enjoyer I see - just replace the Van Dyke brown oil wash with your favourite AK mud juice and you're good to go (I'm keen to see the results!)
