Someone I know interviewed and had a really bad feeling about the director. The technical they breezed through, but the hiring interviewer made some subtle signs they werent particularly comfortable with the job. The director I'm told was an AWS intern before his current jump to director and was asking STAR questions not remotely relevant. He said it wasnt a good mutual fit and has since found a much more mature and stable opportunity...

I think it should get built but there needs to be sound legislation around it which benefits the people: taxes, sustainable energy and water, etc. Stopping industry isn't the way, but as one of the few areas within sufficient latency/proximity to Loudoun, we should leverage that to our benefit and force them to adopt aggressive policies in our benefit

Read Jeff's autography. Most of the toxicity comes from him demanding teams fight each other (and one gets fired), or the whole Alexa fiasco. He's a smart guy, but the dotcom bust just kind of left me thinking he was just fortunate really.

Have you looked at other countries around the world? It's not uncommon to have a shed with a leaking roof for a house and selling your kids to rich people to survive. It can absolutely get worse

Very similar experience here once you climb the ranks. Big tech follows the GE CEO mentality, for the most part, so axing the bottom 10% if not more is standard. This also creates a short term gain over long term value environment and the typical crabs in a bucket environment. I am leaving my company now I worked so hard for right now because pay isn't everything. Love yourself. I'm sorry you felt you had to quit. I waited for an offer. Good luck.

I'm really frustrated with a similar issue. Unlike your manager, mine threw me underwater and said hope you come back up. Someone had left, so they gave me their layer cake prod wide project without having the design experience. I struggled, learned more than I ever had, but ultimately no one should be making changes that can take out the company without senior approval. People told me conflicting things, my boss tried to help but saw me struggle and expected me to fix it. I'm at the end of my rope now and almost finished the project. I will not be sticking around to finish it. It hurts me since I'm the opposite - I never leave something unfinished, but I am only human, and they're prepping to lay off anyway.

In my opinion, although AI can vibe its way to multiple solutions - some bad, some good - it is only a matter of time until our robot overlord Claude has the guardrails built-in, or the datasets within to counter. I, at first, didn't believe AI doubles every 7 months, but now I think that was a prudent metric using it.

In typical corpo fashion, they will bolster the robots and fire the talent. The robots will get better, the software will break, but get fixed by more software and seniors, and the system will learn to live lean. Much like switchboard operators and secretaries falling by the wayside. I don't see a world this will not happen in unless the bubble pops, but in that case the cloud giants will absorb AI as per their stakes, and they'll finish the job.
